But 1.75" Dumas kicks arse all

In order to use 1.75" Dumas for the Maxi 1200 mod, I think you have to use 2.0" PVC.

This is true hence the challenge to attach it to the MJ body.

>> Taking Ball's idea of the reducing fitting as the housing I will
>> just turn it around and use the larger diameter on the pump

This is how the Tunze streams look with the larger part at the bottom.

I'm going to use the 1.75 Dumas on my mod. I'll make a short mount out of 1.5 PVC, then slide on a 1.5 slip coupling for the shroud. the ID of the slip coupling is 1.91. (same as the 1.5 pipe OD) The OD of the coupling is 2.34 so it's a little bigger than the MJ housing but it should look pretty clean.

his looks to be about the same size as my latest ones. 2 inches in length.

D.
Yeah, they are 2 inches long. I would have made them even shorter but I think the smaller intake area would reduce flow too much.I'm still amazed at how well these work.:)

Be sure to post results :)

Does anyone have an extra 'hanger thing' seen below? Unfortunately, I threw out one of my MJ boxes and need one of these for the 2nd mod that I will be making. I dont need the suction cups or anything, just that little hook peice. If anyone has an extra one and would be willing to just throw it in an envelope and send it to me, I would REALLY appreciate. I would be happy to send payment through PayPal to cover costs to ship, or whatever...

Can someone clarify all this for me?

What's the benefit of the larger single prop over the double smaller props? Is the 1.75 Dumas the way to go as opposed to two smaller ones?

I'm trying to figure out which prop configuration for a mj 600 and mj1200? (Quiet, flow, size, etc.)

larger props=larger flow.

without hard numbers 1.75>2x1.25 the second prop only adds a small percentage of extra flow over the first prop. the larger prop has more area to push water rather than 2 props where the 2nd is just catching some of the inefficiency of the first one.

Yes a MJ600 would be fine to push a 1.75" Dumas prop. No problems at all. I wouldn't go any smaller than MJ600 though.

Incidentally I found this site that has some useful information of prop cutting and re-shaping that will also help to maximize performance. Keep in mind this is intended for RC boating but the principles are the same

Like areze stated previously. The larger propeller has a larger suface area in the blades and in turn will enable it to move a greater amount of water versus the smaller propellers.

did you guys know that there is going to be a commercial kit Available ? was at Premium aquatics today and they had one in their SPS tank, said it was going to be about $50 + MJ, said it was for a 1200, but I suspect it would work with the others. Sounds like a good Idea for lazy/unhandy people.

$50 for the entire mod including the MJ pump? or $50 just for the mod?

If Just for the mod then I think it's somewhat a ripoff IMO
I make them for people for a lot less than that.

These mods already have a patent pending and will be commercially available in the very near future at approx. $30.00 ea.

The motorized unit is also patent pending.
