The Tank that REEF CENTRAL Built - 450 gal display, 800 gal volume

You need to rent her out. I have a tank she could rehab and once she is done with that I have a kitchen she can rehab.

IT LOOKS GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Joe

THANKS JOE!
I will tell her you said so. I am trying to talk her into getting an account on RC so she can give her insight and take some of the credit for her skills!

Looks good. I have a question that I might have over looked while reading this thread. But why are u keeping multiple Bio-cubes, with the huge system you are building, and why are u putting them in a closet? Wouldn't you and your talented wife like to see all the display tanks?

Dana & I really enjoy the finer details of the hobby, and coral propogation is a real interest for both of us. All the smaller systems are to allow us to put forth the best effort in creating an ideal envornment for different coral species. They are less about display and more about the growth, health and needs of each type of coral.

A good example would be Anthillia, Xenia, and GSP. We love those kinds of corals but they thrive in a higher nutrient tank, and so that is where we keep them.
Dana will litterally sift through buckets of sand for hours until she is satisfied that she has recued every last baby brittle star, so controlling fast growers like the corals mentioned above by cutting back is not an option for her. So we give it away in bunches and give it its own space to go crazy!

Bill that looks amazing!!!! Totally looks different from when we moved it in.

Trouble in paradise

Trouble in paradise

We have a scopas tang who has decided that our Purple Tang does not belong.
We need to get the scopas out of the tank!

Any ideas? Tang stun guns or fish whisperer available.

That is night and day with the stand and canopy. Your wife did an excellent job. Great transition. As for the scopas, good luck. Unless you have a fish trap, your transition will be retransitioned.

Dana got the Purple Tang out, but it is not looking good. We had two mini schools of tangs in each tank and felt that they would do fine together since there was no aggression with anyone before.

Very sad. Simply can't stand the possibility of losing anyone for something we did. I am on the way to Lowes to get some acrylic to build a partition for the tank, we will feed behind the partition until we get the scopas out.

That's to bad. What are you going to do with the transition tank when you move in to the new house?

We will keep it set up in the location where the build will be, then either sell it or find another spot for it. Just like there is always more room for beer in the fridge, there is always room for another tank in the house!

Purple Tang Update

Purple Tang Update

I ran to lowes last night and did my first bit of acrylic work EVER. I made this very simple fish trap design.
-Two rectangular pieces of acrylic taped together to allow them to fold.
-the two pieces are a few inches taller than the tank
-The top edges are notched out to fit under the lip of the tank edge, and one is shorter than the other so you can burry the larger half in the sand
- the shorter half allows for you to swing the trap closed when you have the fish you are targeting inside the trap

I slipped this thing in the water, turned off the flow and dropped some pellet food in the corner of the tank, and I had the troublemaker caught within 4 min!

Now safely isolated in the Softies tank:

Seems to me that everything is planned out. I am no expert but from reading other builds of that capacity I say go green. Sorry but that's the military coming out again.

I'm no expert either but it looks good. I like the fact your using individual GFI outlets (so only 1 can pop at a time). I also like the PVC pipe, that way you'll have easy access to run wires, tubing... The one thing I missed was supply and drains for water in the fish room (For a sink, doing water changes...).

Thanks for checking in and the feed back. And excellent catch. I forgot to point out, there are lines plummed next to the fish room that can be taped for a water source, but no drain. We wanted to have a sink installed for the fish room, but the main slab is over 2 feet from the level of the fishroom, and getting a drain was not going to be possible.

Basically, we thought about it too late.

There is a utility sink installed in the laundry room which is right off of the entrance to the house from the garage, so that is where the bunk of the cleaning will happen.
