i won a bottle of these tiggerpods at the bar swap. these guys are soo cool! you can actually see them swimming around. anyhow, i kept them in the fridge until i got my prop tank up. i released them into my prop tank and they're swimming around like crazy! i'm suprised to see they're still alive after being in the fridge for so long. hopefully they'll breed like crazy in the algae.

Your's are alive after 4 weeks on ice, and mine are nowhere to be found 4 weeks after being put in the tank...go figure!

marmot you got any coral in your tank? tiggerpods are active and swim alot. i dropped a few in my 7g and they are MIA now. there aren't any corals or skimmer in my prop tank so hopefully they will reproduce. if they do, i'll give you some if you gotta fuge

No it was when the two brothers came in and spoke about there business along with phyto,pods,roti's and they had a few bottles of tiggerpods maybe 5 months back?(doesnt seem that long ago,but you know how that goes ).

A little secret that I learned from a very experience member:

Don't dump the whole bottle of tigger pod into your tank. Use some phytofeast to feed your tigger pod so that they can reproduce. Next time I get some, I think I am going to see if I can get them to reproduce in a 2 liter bottle.

I won a bottle of tigger pod at the last BAR's frag swap. Now I can't find any in my sump. Don't know if they are still there. *sigh* Next time, I am just going to grow them out.

I got some at Mermaid a few weeks ago and after carefully aclimating them up to tank temperature I dumped them in. The other night I was checking out my 'fuge (which is nothing more than one of those plastic floating breeders w/some Chaeto) and they were buzzing all over the place. Just because you don't see them during the day doesn't meen they aren't in there

Just a quick few comments:

Randy and I came out to the MARS meeting, we're not brothers. His brother, Tim Reed is my boss as well though

Tigger-Pods survice on phytoplankton mainly. If you have none in your system, I doubt Tiger-Pods will do much in it. They love brown algaes, so the diatom the builds up on your glass is perfect for them.

Karl, I brought around 10 bottles to the BAR swap


These copepods are an intertidal animal, no acclimation is needed honestly. They swing from 15ppm to 60ppm salinity no problem, and from 50 degrees to 90. Good looking out though Rich, sounds like the're doing great for you

I won two sets of phyto and Tigger Pods at the Bar Swap. I gave the second set away. When I had the frag trays sitting against the glass I would see the Tigger Pods behind them, but now that they are gone I don't see them anymore. I know they are in the tank, I just never see them. So if you don't see them, they still may be in there.

We won one bottle of tiger pods at the meeting and put it in our refugium, I don't know how much has multiplied or died, I still see them on a daily basis and they are getting quite big.

I got a handufl of frags: 2 Acros, 2 Monti's, some Acans, a nice piece of Atlantis Watermelon Chalice, and a chunk of duec's Favia. No fuge though, I turned it into a sump. And actually just like duec was saying, they may still be in my tank as well, I just haven't noticed them since that first night that I put them in. Thanks for the offer, but until I give up on this skimmer(which isnt likely), I dont have a fuge to keep the pods in.

I've always wanted a mandarin but my tank is only 45 gallons. If I get tiggerpods and put them in the fuge will it be enough to get a mandarin?

I'd wait on the Mandarin for a while anyway. Very picky fish with regards to what they eat, and they cruise around and eat constantly. It's hard to get them to eat prepared foods unless you work with "training" them. http://www.melevsreef.com/mandarin_care.html

Mandarins will eat a lot of pods! It would take a big refugium on a 45 - I believe you would need to replenish it fairly often and feed phyto to keep the pods going and ensure the mandarin has enough food ongoing. Probably could be done, but you'd need to monitor it continually (a lot of Mandarins in medium size tanks do great for 6 months then starve to death slowly when the reefkeeper forgets to keep watch on the food supply).

I've also read that Mandarins like the smaller, slower copepods that crawl on rocks better than the free swimming... but Tiggerpods advertises that theirs are the best, and I think they are the larger swimmers (maybe we need both types to make sure everything in the tank is happy?!

Tigriopus californicus (Tigger-Pods) spend time doing both, climbing on rocks and such, as well as free swimming. The larger ones tend to swim more, where as the smaller ones are far more benthic.

From the bottle:
"They will hide in the rocks and seaweed and periodically swim into the water column."
