UCSB Santa Barbara NSW Natural Sea Water...

i don't know about fishing. i just try to keep fish alive. the hose flows about 250 gallons per hour. i don't think you will have time to fish. you can walk on the beach nearby though.

Carl

Picked up another 250G on Friday after noon. No problems and there were several people walking around campus.

Found the hose not stored, was hanging in the dirt. :(

I am looking to set up a 8000g SW system and am wondering if I can get my SW from here? If so, what is the best way of getting 8,000 gallons of SW from here?

I need to plan all of this out and manage the costs.

Thanks

8,000G's hu? Probably your best bet is to talk to Scott at ine info I provided on page 14 and see what he can do to help. You'll need a big truck and trailer to haul that much. That or a lot of trips down there to pick up a little at a time. I have a 400G container you can borrow but you'll need a trailer to haul it once it's full because it's going to weigh about 2 tons, 4000 lb's.

Good luck.

The tank is actually a pond that I am planning on srtting up. Nothing final yet, just figuring out what will need to be done and calculating all of the expenses.

Thanks guys :)

Just a friendly reminder...

Please place the hose back after you use it.

I picked up 150 gallons tonight and the hose was once again on the ground/ in the dirt.

Check our club website. There is a full pictures and everything of their filtering facility that we did a tour of. ;)

We get the same water that they use in their research. ;) That tap that the line is on is from the research facility that is in that building. It also goes to the other buildings in the area. Take a walk around the corner of the building and peek inside and you'll see the research bins that that same water is going into.

So yes, we do get good filtered water.

Hey Carl,
I replied to that thread and it seems Anthony dosen't like anyone who goes against his thinking of NSW is bad for our tanks. I just don't understand how something that the fish normally live in could be so bad for them as he states.

Anthony is a product of the hobby industry and his success. It's often funny and disturbing at the same time that those who work in the commercial end of the industry never recommend NSW, but those in the service and hobby sides dont mind using or recommending it.

And to say that synthetic salt is perfectly consistent is pure bunk. They dont produce a product they cant profitably sell. To ensure that one batch matches another in consistency would be a major undertaking. They can make sure it is within certain standards or guidelines, but the manufacturer sets those points themselves.

NSW changes with the seasons, tides, currents and biology in the oceans. Animals not only expect the natural cycles, they depend on it to regulate their own biology. NSW will change gradually, where a bi-weekly water change with synthtic salt can vary widely.

A post board for what? Sale items, info?

May not be advisable or allowed on school property.

However, maybe leaving a card with the RC web address might be a bad idea. Or one of the local club cards. ;)

Do you guys think that the Zaca fire that has been layering the whole town with ash would cause any problems with the water? I know that it is filtered pretty well, but just wanted to be sure.

I doubt it. You could always check with UCSB to see if they've stopped circulating that same water through their entire research operation (600 gallons a minute usage BTW).

I'm going down to san diego tonight. Being my first time down there, I was wondering if anyone can give me specific directions where the spigot would be at Scripps. And is the pier off Discovery, thanks in advance for the help.
