Very unhappy with the nano-stream 6025's

Krazy

In Memoriam
I purchased TWO nanostream 6025's from marine depot on 12/7/2006

I got them 1 week later (12/14)

Anyways the 1 started making a horrible loud clicky claky noise, so marine depot gave me an RMA # for return... I got that packaged up this evening and literally the other nano stream started making the same noise about 10 mins ago :mad2: :mad2: :mad2: :mad2: :mad2:

I am beyond mad, I bought the tunze because they were/are supposed to have a good name... but from my searches on here this seems to be a way to much of a common problem....

I gotta pay to ship the thing back, I havent even had them in my tank for 3 weeks and they are broken...

Dissapointed....

:(

You have started several threads about this, in everone of them I told you to send it to me and I would get it taken care of. You never gave me a chance so I don't really feel your opinion is valid.

Mine kick a**, and they're dead silent. The first few days there was a little noise, but after that nothing, just loads of wide flow. You should have talked to Roger before you sent them back, he would've gotten you squared away. You didn't have them on a wavemaker did you?

one of my 6025's sticks sometimes, i have to nudge the impellar to get it to start, no wavemaker they are on 24/7.(3)

**The BIG problem is when trying to move in tank, the 4 little extended notches that click into magnet base break :(

These seem to be of less quality than my 6060's,6000's and 6100's were. I am worried what the next 8 weeks of usage will bring....

I just received my second one today from Marinedepot. I find the 6025s to be of great quality. They do click for a second or two when started but that's it.

My second one is quieter than the first one. I took the first one I received apart and noticed the steel pin is loose on the inside where the second one is seated firmly. I'll have to toy with it to see if I can fix it.

I am not concerned with quality control with Tunze. They back their product for two years if I am not mistaken. I am so impressed with the nano streams I ordered a Tunze skimmer and recirculation pump for my tank.

I agree with Smatter, from what I have read here on Reefcentral.com, Roger takes good care of Tunze customers and I think that is some of what you pay for when buying their product.

Just my $.02. I am a newb and don't claim to know much about reefing. However, I do know customer service and from what I hear Roger and Tunze give top notch. If I have a problem I feel confident this company will back it.

I can add to the woes of it running, it makes loud clicking sounds and I I run it out of water briefly u can see the impeller catching on the casing.. this is a disgrace when it comes to quality control..

does anyone know what can be done about it?

So when you use something in a way it was not intended it is faulty? It does make clicking sounds on start up and the propellers self correcting design is such that the prop can come out and hit the body of the pump if run dry and it will for a brief moment on start occasionally, this is the way it was designed, this is how it corrects the rotation to spin the correct way. These pumps were not made to be used as fans.

Eagles- Good game, can you take T.O. back? Send me a PM and I will send a new clip.

These pumps are not for wavemakers.

Krazy K, you started numerous threads about your first pump and I offered to take care of it, complaining will not fix anything. This is a support forum, meaning if you ask for help I will help you but I have no magic wand.

Can I ask, is there a bedding in time on these?

as these 2 6025's I have are quite noisy atm, I am comparing them to my old bigger stream mind and that had been running a fair old while..

or should I expect them to stay this loud?

:(

There can be, mine were very noisy for a day and got progressively quieter until at about 3 days they were very quiet and have stayed such for the month or so I have been running them. Things to check are:

Are the rubber feet installed?
Is the magnet reverberating against something, like the tank trim?
Is the shaft firmly pressed in? On some of the first ones the shaft came loose, sometimes it can just be given a firm push, sometimes they must be replaced.
Is the prop intact? I have seen one pump where something shredded the prop and unbalanced it as one end was shorter than the other.
Is the shaft broken? I have seen a few pumps where something was wrong with the alloy of the shaft, it is a very brittle but high strength stainless alloy and the shaft snapped.

Roger,

I am sending them both back to marine-depot, It sucks I have to pay shipping to send em back, they were literally in my tank for 14 days... :(

First it was the one pump, I got the RMA from marine depot then last night the 2nd pump started doing the same excact thing :(

I'm afraid the new ones I get back will be just as bad, I dont wanna have to send these out every 2-4 weeks... Hopefully I got 2 bad ones, I can honestly say my first impression is no good...

I'm complaining because I am upset that these both broke within 2 weeks time, I know ya dont have a magic wand, its just crappy that I gotta lose time and money for something I bought brand new with a good name :(

If you send them back to me, I can be sure you get something that works because it will have been tested and fitted to be perfect. Plus, I am a bit closer and probably a lot faster. I have been completely straightforward on this subject, these pumps are new and there are a few bugs that have to be worked out.

[edited since krazy k finally is accepting roger's help]

I love tunze products, I just got a 9010, and even though my system isn't running yet, this thing looks like top of the notch quality. Waiting on the 6045's to come in as well soon!

I've had a few issues with my 6100's (due to my lack of knowledge taking care of them - the old ones before the impeller change) and Roger always took care of me no questions asked. I would have no problem buying any Tunze product. Not very often anymore do you get that kind of service. THANKS ROGER.

Chris

How many times do you need to be told to ask the right person for help. Any way good luck. It seems to me Roger does all he can to keep us Tunze owners happy. I love my 6025 and just waiting for the 6055. Plus it is kinda silly to think the first batchs of anything of a new production line is going to be problem free.

slant77 sums it up perfectly. There are always a few issues with a new product, and you'd be hard-pressed to find anyone that gives better support than Roger. I bought 2 6000's and a multicontroller first. Then bought a 6025. All have worked flawlessly (although the 6025 was missing the protective grating on the front). Frankly, I'd never heard of Tunze (I live out in the sticks), until recently, when it was mentioned at my LFS. Then I stumbled on this forum. My experiences with both have convinced me to now consider Tunze first whenever I am looking for something new -- if they make it, they're going to be my first choice.
