Wazzel's mostly SPS 60 Cube

Want some? It grows like a weed. I got like a dozen frags of it.

I would love to get some pink birds nest, but for some reason I never see it around here....Isn't it funny how a coral can go from cool, to stunning to a nuisance when it's too successful?

Once it cools down I can send you some. It has been near 100 around here for the past few weeks. If interested I can get you some other things to make shipping worth your while.

It has not hit nuisance proportion yet. I still like it and it is one of my wife's favorite pieces. I just have to keep it trimmed so it does not shade my copps hulk millie. It is weaker than any of the corals it contacts so sometimes I just have to nip the white tips so it does not look bad.

Thanks for the offer, but I have no room for non acros. :) My wife's favorite was a green tipped bird I had grown to grapefruit size. When healthy it has bright green tips, blue inner polyps, and a nice orange base. I think it gains 1/2 inch a week, way too fast for my laziness.

You are missing out. I am in process of cleaning out my frag tank. I am having a hard time controlling the algae in it so I am going to reduce to just the frags I am holding for my eventual upgrade. It has been frustrating. It shares the sump with my main tank, which has very little algae. Snails and hermits are eating it, just not getting ahead. I tried an algae blenny, but it jumped. Hopefully the clean out will get me over the fund hump so I can get the upgrade going. Decided to just go with a 120. I can get it up for very little out of pocket as opposed to the 250+ gal tank I want. Really do not want to be tank poor.

So looking forward to upgrading. Going to order the tank tomorrow. I got more nice things stashed in my frag tank. Picked up a small red dragon, purple stylo and two other frags I can not remember the name of a few weeks ago. Swung by my LFS and got two free distressed frags, an Oregon tort and a pink panther. There are in really bad shape, missing tissues and discolored real bad. No pest or anything. I dipped them anyway and there was nothing on them. This is not the first time I get almost dead frags from the LFS to see if I can save them. I owe him a frag of one he gave me that just had a few polyps on it and is now a nice sized frag, just needs to get a bit bigger.

What dimensions? I hope the 2' by 4' one twenties. Those are since nice corals to get free. I hope they color up and do great in your system.

Yes, 48x24x24 external overflow and rimless. I am going to end up with more than twice the usable space since the overflow will be external. I am not going to add any rock. The plan is for low and open on the scape.

The corals are not totally free, I am going to give back frags if they recover. He will get more than the value of what he gave me in return.

That is an excellent size for your tank! I think that Reefs really need at least 2ft of depth to lay things out properly without crowding along the glass. An external overflow is super nice too - well worth any added expense.

Nice dims, congrats :celeb1:

NICE!!! Another upgrade, wow, making me jealous with all that upgrade talk going on right now on the sps board :) Good luck, I am really happy for you!

I had turf wars to sort out this past weekend. I ended up with 27 frags, mostly tubs mystic blue millie and pink birds nest. The millie was over growing my efflo and the birds nest was getting its butt kicked on many fronts. It should help fund the upgrade.

Also think it is time for a kalk stirrer. I have been adding kalk to my top off and it is helping reduce the demand of two part. I do not want to add to much for fear of gunking up my top off pump. I use 3 heading tablespoons per 10 gallons.

Do you sell frags to the LFS or fellow reefers? I usually trade frags and/or colonies to the LFS but I have a hard time demanding a price from anyone.

I do both. I keep a for sale thread on the local fish board and trade a few frags here and there with the LFS. I produce frags faster than I can move them locally. It is a small community, 115,000 people in the parish. Not a lot of reef keepers. The one good LFS for saltwater is one town over. He gets all my business. SPS are not really in demand in the area. If I was comfortable with shipping I could probably move things a bit better.

There are lots of LFS here that sell frags, I could probably get money for them if I asked. So far the LFS owner that I am friends with has been pretty good about extending store credit, i tend to arrive with bags of coral unannounced. Once some of the premium corals I have need fragging maybe I will make more of an effort to properly mount them and give it a shot.

I let him know I am coming and what I am bringing. Most of the time he gets the better end on the deal. I just want to offset the cost as much as I can. This is just a hobby, not a job.

He is having issues with his system right now and has been killing SPS left and right. I have a few high end things he gave me to try and save. So far so good on that. Once he works out his issue I will probably have a good outlet for frags there.

Just for fun here is 12 months of growth comparison. The first 6 months was kind of rough. I had red bugs, a nippy fish, bad algae, a destructive hitch hiker crab and had to figure our my lights. The last 6 months things have been going well.

Been meaning to comment on your thread for some time just haven't my apologizes. Very nice work you sure do have a purple thumb:thumbsup: I tried to read all your post, are your running GFO, Carbon or other means of removing n03/p04 besides water changes?
