What Color is Your Carpet? {pics please}

thanks, Minh. I wasn't joking but I had my suspicions. On with the show!

Beautiful tank and nice looking gig. I don't mean to steer this off topic, but can you ID the SPS right under the Powder Blue's nose (and to the left of it)? I've got the exact same piece and don't know what it is.

thanks. Well... we both know it's an Acropora. Exact species... I don't positively know...but it's popular in the hobby. I've had it since the early '90's. I got my original frag of it from Dick Perrin (THE man himself!) @ Tropicorium in Detroit. I believe this coral might be the same Acropora described as "Stuber's Coral" in 'The Reef Aquarium' vol. one by Sprung /Delbeek.
It's a really good grower.

Gary, your tank is beautiful as always. So glad to see someone is able to keep a gig healthy and alive for a few years in captivity. Do you still have a bunch of S. tapetum anemones too?

nice, Minh. I have a special thing for blue carpet anemones!

great memory! Yes. Did you happen to get some from me?

I got a little time today and able to load the picture online. So here are my two carpets. The color is a little wash out and does not see to be as bright as in real life. Wish me luck on my Gigantea. It is in my tank 2 days at this time. It was at the LFS in poor light and low circulation. Seem to lost a lot of color from when they first got it. That is the down side. The up side is that it have been there sine 5/1/2012, and it is not fully bleached. I dig deep in my pocket for big bucks for it. With any luck, I hope I can help it recover.

I still not have him in my tank for long. It seem promising at this time. He have not deflated once since I got him, only getting larger and larger since I put him into the tank.
The blue Haddoni I have had for 6 months.
I was very envious of you when you got your anemone.

I didn't get any tapetum anemones from you... I think you had just taken a break from shipping them all over the earth. But, your tank turned me onto them and I have quite a few in my tank now. They are super hardy little things... if only other Stichodactyla species were that hardy!

My former green S. haddoni.

To make a long story short I accidently ended up with a healthy long tentacle and haddoni and an 18inch in diameter Amplexidiscus mushroom in a 75g tank, so I returned the haddoni to the store I purchased it from, 4 years ago. They put it into a tank they service and as of last time I asked it is doing well.

I was searching the web and found a picture of this carpet. No information on this but it appears to be a healthy S. gigantea in a tank rather than in the wild. It is not my carpet but a picture I found at www.worldwidereefers.com. This color is so beautiful, I would kill for it.

Again It is not my carpet but a picture I found at www.worldwidereefers.com

Finally tracked a nice healthy one down. It's super sticky with a tight oral disc and thick turgid stalk/base. I was fortunate enough to place it in a spot where it may be happy and not wander too much(for now) causing potential havoc. I stayed up all night fixated and watching it slowly acclimate and finally affix itself to the glass at the bottom of the substrate. You know that feeling when you were a kid on Christmas eve waiting in anticipation?....that's the feeling lol. Although....I haven't seen my Rainford Goby this morning..... Taken with a Blackberry camera phone.
