Windex with vinegar usage

Off the wall question RC. Saw at Walmart the other day that they make Windex Vinegar (no ammonia). Has anyone used this product directly on their glass? Thought you might be able to, mainly do to the fact that there is no ammonia but I am not sure about any other constituents in the material that would not allow it.

Have a rimless tank that gets pretty nasty between the kids finger prints and cleaning.

Isopropanol 91% does the trick nicely and will definitely not harm the live in the tank should a drop get in.
Also available at Wal-Mart.

I spray Windex on a paper towel over the sink and then use the paper towel on the glass and I've never had any issues.

I use plain ro/di water and a microfibre towel and have not had any issues either.

I use rodi water in a spray bottle and a squeegee then the microfiber towel

Heck. After so many years of being scared of Windex, I've come to the point that I just spray the windex downward on my aquarium glass and wipe off. Sure its ammonia and can hurt inhabitants if you not cautious, but it's no longer a worry for me. Just don't rest the bottle on top of you tank

As for the the new vinegar based Windex. It seems like a good start to a more friendly cleaning solution. BUT, "Cleaning Agents, Carriers, Wetting Agent" tells you that you can never trust the product to be aquarium safe. You have no idea what those agents are.

Save you money/alleviate your worries... Just use vinegar and water.. or straight vinegar.. Its an excellent cleaner for many household tasks. glass being one of them..

Everything in that list except water is a potential issue. I might use it, but I would use it just like I do the regular windex. Spray on a towel away from the tank and use the towel to wipe.

Just do a 50/50 mix of vinegar and water and you will have the same thing for way cheaper.

I just use Distilled White Vinegar 50/50 Mix of Vinegar and Water. Spent around 2 bucks for a gallon on sale and bought a spray bottle for around 3.00, that gallon will last a long, long time.:thumbsup:

I have used both just ro water and cut vinegar wiped with a rag. they both work great, I have no reason to use anything else.

Most of my main cleaning (countertop, table, even floors) uses a vinegar and dawn dish soap combo.

i've used just about everything to clean glass on my aquariums and never harmed anything that I could tell.. However, RODI water in a spray bottle works just as well as anything else I've used. save your windex and vinegar solutions for dirty tasks like bathroom mirrors and exterior windows. That's what those are made for.
