Yes!!!!!!!!! SPS Success with Leds! Come in and Share your Story!

+1 to the parts I have quoted.

Having said that, there are some tanks with PURE LED lighting that do have VERY nice SPS colours...the QUESTION is: Why arent more people having success?

One important fact that most hobbyist forget especially when discussing lighting, it is the Indian not the arrow.

I somewhat agree with JP. While that tank is not hideous it's nothing to write home about. Neither is mine Btw. You could almost see the spot light/disco ball effect if you look closely.

Tried led some months ago and just had to take them down. Too bright and color is a tad more artificial than MH/t5.

I think a little more tact could have been used but I agree with JP and there is plenty room for improvement. That being said, I think that the LED's are not producing the results I am looking for when I set my new system up.

There are lots of factor to why sps colors differs.why is everyone blaming on lighting? If this fella can get this color and you have the same fixture its simply mean its not the lighting!!!

The thing is that I have yet to be impressed with the look of corals and tanks with LED's only.

The Problem with LED's is that its very difficult to get quality pictures that really capture the color seen in person. At least that's my case in my tank.
Everything comes out purple as hell in my pics and colors look bad, but in person the look like any other tank I have seen. Well not to include those crazy Zeo Tanks that people have out there.

If DaddyJax is having issue with LED's...then "Houston, we have a problem"

Lol, I have just yet to see them by themselves be impressive. Now you use T5's and tdb320reef uses MH as well and have had great success. I just think that there is something about them that we are not looking at that may be causing the subtle differences in colors. I am currently looking into a theory. ;)

I'm not being mean. I'm being honest. If this thread is about "SUCCESS" with LEDs then I don't believe it is useful to cheer for brown corals because that's not "SUCCESS"...
Success is entirely in the eye of the beholder. Take a look at the settings on his light: 100% white 20% blue. I don't think the poster is going for the 'coloured sticks' look. slap on some T5, turn the white down and the blue up and this tank will instantly take on that 'glow in the dark' look.

Don't assume your definition of success is the same as everyone elses.

Admit I did add Mh and the colors are much better in some corals. I also admit that I had great success with led only. I also admit that I still have 12 led panels on my system. I agree that high usage of led whites/yellows degrade the corals health thus impacting the sps corals colors. I think the best combo is led blues with MH or t5 covering the white/yellows to have the "best" colors with the healthiest corals.

Ps the previous picture with the "brown" corals I believe has fallen victim to a lack of post processing and think the tank looks great but would look better with more blue led with white mh/t5.

Kind of like a professor at the university telling the class they are to stupid to learn. Very poor choice of words!

I think what he is saying is that success is based on ones observation point. This observation point is not linear. Ones persons success could be another's failure.

Clearly you are the english perfesser and I'm the geek in the labcoat. :D Nicely put and exactly what I meant in my own word challenged way.

tbd, I spent some time looking at pictures of your tank before and after your recent change from LED only to LED/MH lighting. I don't really see any difference, but pictures often do not capture things well. Have you seen a difference? If so, is it across all corals, is it just some...?

I ran Chinese 120W on a 29g for 3+ months & on my 75g tank for almost a month. I only had one set of zoas not do well so far. They were very light blue/green ones & much paler than the rest. They went from a MH bulb that was way past due it's life expectancy to LED's & I guess it was too much for them. As you can see I have many different corals & all are doing great with some acquiring more coloration.
