I installed the Euphotica 16 from Hobbie Bug. In one week, my corals have shown unexpected growth and coloring up.

Your tank must look absolutely awesome for you to say this tank is awful. Love to see some pics.

I had to look it up again but it's 119 leds total, 60 blue and 59 white for the model I use which is the 14,000k model.

Any problems with coloration I've had are from water parameter issues and not lighting. You can see the sunset montipora in the photo above with a bit of color loss from alkalinity burn a while back. The new, healthy growth looks great and the old growth is coloring back up nicely now that my tank parameters are good again. I've had several tank issues along the way in my learning curve but these leds have never been the cause of any of it. I know this is the sps forum but LPS do great under leds also.

and this Tort that didn't get posted above.

Too many tank issues are blamed on lighting these days. So many new tanks dosing any additive they can get their hands on, running GFO and biopellets and complaining that leds are the problem.

Impressive, Gabriel.
What is your filtration system like?"¦

Mike De Leon,
I have to totally agree! That comment was TOTALLY uncalled for! And if that tank had more blue the colors would look deeper and brighter.
Nice job on the tank! I love it!
What one guy thinks looks good, the other may not be feeling it! Led's are notoriously hard to photograph as well.
Then we can talk about the camera and the guys experience in using it..........

I had two panorama pros on my 14 biocube and had great luck with digitata, undata, blue tip green slimer, ORA green BN, pink BN, orange BN, spongodes, Stylophora and pocillopora. I upgraded to steves LED kit and growth has sped up, but they grew great even under the pros. I have had to frag every single one of them except spongodes, so they can fit in the 14, and they are still overgrowing everything. The pocillopra is growing up everywhere. Granted not expert level sps, but they look good! This is an older photo, the SPS are much larger now.

I love the digitata, it is growing on the back wall and now has large branches growing out of the wall.

Thank you.

Very basic really. Oversized skimmer, loads of liverock. No GFO, carbon, biopellets or anything else. I even removed the macroalgae from my fuge recently and have been happy with the results.

If the light was adjusted to have more blue it would definitely look better. On closer look the corals have good colour. Adjustments on water chemistry may be in order.

OK this is tongue in cheek as it is a total thread interruption but Mo almost taunted me so I just have to . . .

Yes Mike I HAD a nice tank. It's not as nice right now, but I expect to be back in full gear within a year or so. Here is what my tank looked like two years ago . . .

So how do you guys know how much light to use. I have 2 d120 over my breeder and am at about 25/50. color is ok but I think I could use more light. I am movin up very slowly due to fear of cooking things. how do I know when I have reached the tipping point?

Great tanks by the way!

On a 40 breeder Id do 50% Blue and 10% white. Yd have about 200 par in the sand.

IMO,...a par meter is a very handy tool to own when dealing with sps's. The original style led's use to be just plug in and with a timer (maybe). Now with controllers and adjustable dimming, its a crap shoot if you don't know what par your putting to the corals at say 50% blue and 20% white???. If your trying to acclimate, how do you know what your adjusting to? percentages again? With the cost of buying frags, and you don't have to cook very many, a par meter might help. If you do a search on RC for sale site you can find previous owned parmeters for less $ (barley used) or there are even dyi meters. All in all I think its a handy tool to have on the shelf right next to your Salifert test kit.:)---Rick

So what we are saying is that LED's don't kill coral.....people kill corals? :)

My blues & white's are at 50%, but I only have 1 fixture/2 feet (24x18x21). I have recently raised blues to 60% with no ill effects.

+1 tdb320reef TOTM!!!!!!!!!!!

Fixed. Now yours is a tank where the LED gods are making LED's work for you. :D

Thanks for the kind words as always Sahin

^ love it

Thanks

nice undata and sunset , two of my favorites. What type of LED fixtures?

DIY Bridgelux 60RB/30CW, recently i added 2 48" t5 bulbs that run for a few hours at peak day to add some more intensity.

Awesome - one of my favorite tanks.

thanks, yours is also one of my favorite tanks, one of the nicest around by far!.

Heres a couple more photos from last week

Completely agree. With different intensities (current), lens degree, how close LED's are packed together, quality/generation of diodes, combination of diodes etc...I think there are more variables that I cant think of now...I highly recommend a PAR meter.
