Yes!!!!!!!!! SPS Success with Leds! Come in and Share your Story!

This is about the success of LEDs. That's a positive topic. The other is a negative topic about a fully functional item which many are sponsored by reef central.

The other thread also had some people getting really ****y. I suspect that had more to do about it being closed than the topic.

TDB, Please explain your feeding habits and nutrient levels from before and now. And how you control it. thx

I dont mind seeing your tank in here, its inspirational.

Great pics gang!

I have a 29 gallon bio-cube with mostly acros. My problem is with the reds. They look washed out or pale. The blues, greens and purples look good. For example, I have 2 pieces of strawberry shortcake from 2 different sources (1 from copps and 1 from unique corals). In both, the green is gone and as I have said the reds are washed out.

My fixture is a retro I had Nano-Box do for me.

I run 5 Kessil A360we, Just bought another and will be mounting this weekend. I have been having great results, in my 300g DD which is 8 months old. burned a few acros, and had to place and moved some from high to low. These lights are intense.

Great looking tank Robert! Like the top down shots!! Appears to be a lot of growth for a 8 month old tank

I have had success with radions and sps simply because of the acclimate timer. Makes adding large amounts of coral quite easy. And they are awesome lights. To be honest it's the only product ecotech makes that I like.

Mp40 are expensive and only flow water straight ahead. It's cool the motor is outside the tank, but that's about it

I too like the Radion a lot. I do light the Vortech also mainmy due to the motor and electricity outside the tank, thus smaller footprint & no wire inside the tank and not getting the tank heat up like other PH

tdb320reef,

Please explain your nutrient levels from before and now. How did it effect the coral?

And how you control it. thx

Sure I know it is off topic but none the less it is an important subject.

The first year of the tank I was running 1000 ML bio-pellets full tilt with 4 cups of GFO and 2 cups of carbon. At that time I fed fish sparingly. During this time I had very pastel corals but incredible growth rates. I mean it was as if I could see and measure growth in hours. Then some thing happened to the tank whether bad salt, some type of contamination and the tank melted. Corals were losing all tissue and fast.

I never did identify the direct cause though I suspect is was salt contamination with LEAD poising but that is a theory. During the process of the crash my GF encouraged me to set up an independent back up system. This system only had Rock a skimmer and calcium reactor. I evacuated all of my back-up frags to this system. The phos. were about .10 and the nitrates about 25. I have never seen the same corals have such nice color. This is where I changed philosophy from the ULNS.

Once my tank rebounded it became a goal to keep my nitrates above 1 and started dosing AA and eventually sodium nitrate. I modified my biopellet reactor to recirculate and adjust the flow. I removed the GFO and only run .5 cup carbon in a filter bag. I feed often and have a ton of tangs. I don't get the growth that I did in the ULNS but the Color is eye popping and I know the corals are much healthier. As we speak the nitrates are about 25 and the tank is amazing with no signs of stress anywhere. In fact I got a huge neon green Granulosa that was Stning in the center and all but lost and has made almost a full recovery in my system pictured in the middle of the aquarium.

Hope that helps.

For those of you that feel you are sucessful, how are you operating your lights? Duration, intensity, etc vs tank dimension, flow, feeding, etc....

I have a reef breeders photon 48 and all of my corals are doing way better.. They have better color and growth than before with ati t5

Best $499 I ever spent for my tank.. Plus it comes with 2 year warranty

thanks 320reef. Im inspired by your success. I have po4 at .04-.08 and nitrates about 2-10. Things look good now, better than before.
