Your esperience Live Aquaria vs Divers Den

I got a couple of gift certificates for live aquaria for my B-Day:celeb1:. As soon as my tank is up and running (and cycled of course) I plan on getting some fishies. I know some of you (mainly Matt, LOL!) have had some experiences with them. I was just curious about your experiences with live aquaria vs divers den, and live aquaria in general. I know they get very good remarks, but I wanted to ask my local friends. Is the divers den premium worth it?

Fish I'm considering (not all at once obviously) but ones I'm interested in general are:

Another clown to make friends with my grumpy one
Midas blenny
Anthias (not sure which kind (lyretail, bartletts at top of my list)
Maybe a wrasse (fairy or flasher)
Maybe a dwarf angel (flame is my fave!)
Goby shrimp pair
Cardinals or sone interesting chromis variety

Anyway, that's all I can think of off the top of my coco. Obviously these will be QTd. PP and Hypo everything, LOL!

Happy B-day to me (a few days ago), hopefully Santa can bring me some more so I can add corals to the list:beer:

Thanks for any feedback!

Happy belated birthday!! those fish sound good to me.

blue reef chromis is beautiful and more uncommon then the green blue chromis that we see so often.

Live Aqueria is a lot better than divers den. In divers den the fish are over priced just because you could see the real picture of them. But live aqueria in general is very good. Me and some other people from FMAS got together for a group buy so we get free shipping. I got a dwarf angelfish and he is doing great.

Hint: The anthias that you are talking about are very hard to keep do to what they require to eat. Recommend getting a good looking cromis like a blue reef cromis to take its place.

Thanks. Blue reef chromis was on my radar, LOL! I know anthias are hard to keep, but I just love them. In any case, I was going to wait until the tank was more "mature" before adding them. I wanted a pair or trio. I also planned on adding an auto feeder to keep up with their frequent feeding requirements. I usually feed twice a day during the week, and 3 on the weekends, small portions of course!

Have ordered from both LA and Divers den great fish and customer service. Just received a pair if Blennys from DD and couldn't be happier. Divers den is usually a bit more because they qt them in a different facility and feed them regularly so I really don't mind paying the extra amount from DD specially since some fish are hard to find anywhere else.

They are one in the same .....all it comes down to is your choice of fish vs their choice of fish also with dd your going to get more exquisite or hard to finds as opposed to your general stock....in my opinion get the fish or coral you want and who cares if its dd or la they both follow the exact same quality controls and both offer customer service second to none......I have ordered dozens of fish over the years from them and currently have about 15 from them......come see them any time......and how can u beat a 14 day guarantee ....that's half of your qt period with no questions asked .....and if you ever do have a problem all you hear is we apologize you had an issue how would you like that taken care of refund or reship....second to none no micky mouse coustomer service or bs .....they truly are for the serious hobbyists.....

Wow that's impressive. I didn't know DD treated and quarantined all of their fish like that, I'd pay extra for a disease free fish

Yep and not only that, when they sell a bonded pair it truly is a bonded pair.. My blenny n shrimp pairs are inseperable. LA fish stock are also qted just DD i believe are kept at the facility for a bit longer before they go for sale to ensure fish is eating and overall health of the fish is good.

Another good reason to come to the meetings. When Kevin was here and spoke about the facilities he went over all this. He also explained the only differences between the two.......and for those of you that like DD dont forget about collectors corner......

The DD fish are only there for 14 days to make sure they are feeding and healthy, they can still have other things that are hidden. I've seen a few stories on here with issues that have come in with DD's fish.

14 is the minimum.

"Quarantine and Observation Period
The quarantine period for each fish ranges from a minimum of two weeks to several months for more delicate species. Throughout the quarantine period, all of the fish are monitored closely, with particular attention to breathing rate, swimming behavior, and overall appearance and demeanor. Once the fish have passed a thorough inspection, they are ready to be acclimated and moved into our main fish system."

Did you read the link to the web page that i posted? Seems to me that they do a little more than just make sure the fish is eating. And they also state that its a minimum of 2 weeks quarantine and clownfish minimum of 4 weeks. If what you are saying is true than that would be false advertising on their part.

"Disease Prevention
Fish, such as clownfish, prone to common parasitic ailments like Brooklynella hostilis, are given repeated freshwater baths that contain anti-parasite medication. Clownfish are quarantined for a minimum of four weeks at our facility before we offer them for sale. Other fish such as Angelfish, tangs, certain genus of wrasse, and several other specific species are given therapeutic saltwater baths. These baths contain praziquantel or other medications that eliminate flukes, protozoan, and parasites commonly found on wild fish.

To combat common bacterial infections such as Vibrio, therapeutic baths containing antibiotics such as kanamycin, nitrofurazone, Neomycin and other commercial antibiotics are given. Open wounds on fish are treated and healed with a special topical treatment. In addition to the baths, all quarantined fish are treated with copper sulfate and a 37% formaldehyde solution to combat Amyloodinium ocellatum and Cryptocaryon irritans.

Once they start feeding, all new fish that enter our facility, and can be successfully weaned onto prepared foods, are de-wormed, via frozen food soaked in praziquantel, metronidazole, and piperazine. After the de-worming process, we offer a variety of vitamin-enriched foods to all of the fish. These foods include frozen mysis shrimp, frozen brine shrimp, live ghost shrimp, frozen krill, silversides, roe, dried seaweed, cockle, and even pellet foods. Some species of Anglerfish, Frogfish, Leaffish, Scoprion Fish, and certain species of wild harvested seahorses that require live foods, such as Ghost Shrimp, will be listed with this information in their description when they are posted on the site.
