470g inwall construction thread

James at "Envision" is a great guy who I meet last summer at a local meeting, does great work.

I'll be watching for more progress and pics.

Fishroom is nearing completion. Should have the sheetrock up and the tank in the wall this coming week. Now....a couple of updated pics:

Gotta love that skimmer!!!!

What made you decide to go with Steel I-Beams? How are they going to be supported?

woah... :eek2: :eek2: :eek2:

tell me your child is a midget or something, that sump is GIANT!

your sump is 6 times bigger than my tank...

I wanted to be able to have a stand without any visible supports and due to the span I needed a beam with as little deflection as possible. The supports are located in the walls behind sheetrock and consist of 6 2x4 nailed together lenght-wise with a header on the top which the beam rests on. I believe the pics only show four 2x4s but two more have now been added.

Yes, the sump is huge....probably overkill...but since I'm going bb I wanted to be able to run 5000g plus per hour of flow thru the sump and not have to worry about air bubbles.

nice... probably one of the biggest systems being constructed on reef central right now... Any ideas yet on what species' you are planning on keeping?

Honestly, I've been so busy putting this thing together I haven't given much thought to a fish list. The tank will be primarily sps as is my current 155g its replacing. I would like to concentrate on mated pairs or groups of fish as I find the courtship/spawning behavior interesting. I would like to have a couple of mated angel pairs but I haven't narrowed it down to species yet. If anyone has any ideas as far as fish go please chime in.

I will be tagging along for this one. It might possibly give me some ideas for what I am working on now.

This system simply reeks of quality, you have obviously been researching every component for a looong time.

4 q's.

any reason why you didn't go with the red dragon pumps rather than the sequences?

what governed the choice of schuran over korallin (or other) for a calc reactor?

planning to employ sand?

any more details on the durso design ?

quite simply awesome

For your angel pair what about the Lemark angels or the wanatabi (sp.) angels.

P.S. a group of anthias wopuld be cool.

Sequence pumps are more readily available here in the states than the red dragon. BTW....the barricuda pumps are huge.

Those two were actually my favorites. I don't have a lot of floor space in the fishroom so the fact that the schuran mounts on the wall was the deciding factor. I have seen the schuran operate in person and came away very impressed.

planning to employ sand?
No. The tank's bottom is seaboard...ie...starboard. I currently have a 3" sand bed in my 155g and am looking forward to the change.

As far as the angel pairs, I think both the Lemark and wanatabi are good options. I need to start doing some research in that area. Maximus has a mated pair of gorgeous tank raised angels.....very expensive...but definately gives that "wow" factor.
