47G SPS...Revamp

By the way are you supplementing the frag with any thing like calcium, mag, alk? Also have you noticed if it has colored up since you've had it?
My Fauna Marin Doser is faulty and I have to send it to Germany to be fixed...Grrr....
So running kalk at the moment in top off water and that is working fine.
:waiting for post re kiddos wanting to know why mummy and Nemo are laying eggs together: (sorry, couldn't resist)
The video looks great--you've got me itching to add livestock
Haha, thought of that already: Nemo baby helping mummy Clownfish look after babies"¦daddy Tomini Tang is a bad fish.
Mate that is practically stealing but I'm not innocent of taking advantage of a LFS goof up, it not often you get a half price fish. Now I look forward to pics of the stollen Acros
Well, normally they keep the premium stuff in on a rack in the main display"¦but that week the SPS guy wasn't in, and sometime must have moved the frags to the frag tank. It didn't occur to me that they'd normally charge a premium for these frags until I was walking out the door of the shop and then a big smile ran across my face"¦ :D
Sahin! Nice score on the sps frags!
You're gonna have to get pics up of those!! Tank is looking great!
Thanks man. Things are going well so far and pretty pleased.
Sahin, nice new additions.
Have you changed your T5 bulb combination? What is the current one?
Hi Bernie, using same combo which is listed a page or so back.
Nice score on the frags
Yup, just fed the fishes before leaving for work this morning and couldn't help but turn on the lights to admire the Pacman and Speciosa especially. The Pacman has beautiful baby pink coloured body/branches, with the tips terminating in a lime green colour! Awesome coral! Love this one. I'm letting it adjust to the lights and flow"¦then I will move it to an area of stronger flow so the branches grow thicker.
Hi Sahin,
Keep up the good work. I like the new aquascape. There is plenty of room for fish to swim.
If your corals lose some colour in the near future, I would consider removing GFO and GAC, or reducing their amount substantially. This was my experience. When I first set up my present tank, I assumed that there would be plenty of organics in the water column and used GFO and GAC heavily. A lot of the colourful sps frags I introduced from people's tanks and my old frags lost their colour quite quickly. I must have removed too much organics too quickly. I think that in a new tank the water column does not contain enough nutrients to sustain corals. This is why Clayton of Reefworks does not recommend the use GAC in new set ups.
Cheers
Bulent
Hi Bulent. I am willing to sacrifice a bit of colour at the moment in the hopes of keeping any major algae issues well under control. I would have preferred to mature a tank for at least 6 months before adding SPS, but I had to get my corals back from my buddies.
This week I have already reduced the GAC amount anyway.
Sahin,
You just robbed your lfs with those frags.
Can't wait to see them!
Haha, wasn't intentional. Will try take some pics this weekend, but no promises as I am picking up some corals from a few buddies. One of them just fragged me a Rainbow Zoa (I think that's what it is called), so I will be pretty busy.
Sahin, what are your LFS's like there? I hear that they are pretty impressive
Living in London, I am pretty lucky to have access to some very good LFS's"¦the one where I scored those frags from for example is very established and has an annual turnover of at least 1million due to some very rich clients in the heart of London.
They're not too impressive after Sahin pinches all the good frags for peanuts - nice one btw mate
LOL. Thanks mate. I wish I had access to stuff you Aussies pick up.
Nice pick up Let see some pics
Will try this weekend, but will be busy pickup up more corals this weekend.
So happy to see your revamp sahin buddy
Your aquascape looks awesome and the right side will look sick as soon as the corals grow
Are you planning to add some more lps on the sand?
Thanks Michael. I'm happy with the tank as it is right now. The right side was planned for mostly branching acros"¦with the area facing the corner of the tank reserved for one or two select LPS. The plate on the left I'm looking to fill up mostly with Millepora's with a few select other ones in between.

Tank seems to be cruising along nicely. Some corals like my Blue Tort, Red Planet, Blue/Green Turaki, Pacman, Yellow Wolverine/Pink Floyd looking acro etc are already pretty much coloured up. Some others came brown and are still brown. Nothing that was already coloured up has turned brown"¦so that is a good indication that lights/filtration/flow/water quality is on the right track.

There is one brown Millepora I bought which looks to be colouring up pretty nicely"¦Its getting a very similar pink colouration to the Tyree Rouge Millepora"¦even has a slight lime green around the base just like the photo on the ReefFarmers website, well happy with it, the colour will be awesome if the whole thing colours up.

He is doing fine, thanks for asking. He cries a lot though...I thought babies were much quieter... Keep me awake in the nights etc etc.

Now you can take this opportunity/excuse to observe the night life of the corals, e.g. PE, etc.:lol2:

AEFW's...Feel so devastated...

AEFW's...Feel so devastated...

It is with great sadness to say this, that after so many years I am once again hit by AEFW's.

The last few weeks I've added a few SPS corals and I've followed the same dipping procedure I've used for a number of years.

But without a proper QT in place, all it is takes is a few AEFW to get through.

Feel so depressed right now...especially knowing that Bello didnt beat them and doesnt even post anymore; doesnt give no confidence. :sad2:

Man that sucks buddy, so sorry to hear that:(. Don't give up mate. I read a very good saying a while ago "when your going through hell, just keep going". You know you've got our full support buddy:)

Sahin!!!! CR@P!!!!
This totally sucks... I am really sorry to hear this. It is such a sickening feeling when you discover those little monsters in your reef.. Been there.. It is totally demoralizing..
But really, if it is going to happen and it almost always does, now is the best time for you. When you don't have a lot of sps and you don't have to do major destruction to your system to actuall eradicate them..
I know this is not exactly helpful, but it could be a lot worse..
Just steel yourself and get through it. Take them all out chop, dip and dip again.
You have the opportunity to get 'clean'

Well said Matt:thumbsup:

Damn that stinks! I hate AEFW. Had them a long time ago and used a baster and hungry fish to take care of the problem. Your corals are spread out so basting should be easier to pull off than in a tank that has corals crowded together. My yellow coris and clowns would follow the baster around and pick off any AEFW's. Seeing that brought me a lot of satisfaction:smokin: Good luck with that and get those fish working for you.....................Jim

Oh man, this is awful. At least it's early in your new setup... Can you dip them all without too much difficulty?

Thanks for the supportive words.

The only tried and sure way method to rid them that we have currently, is to dip them.

Which is exactly what I am going to do.

I would appreciate any advice as to how frequently you dipped and how many weeks and did you get 100% eradication?

I am looking to dip weekly, for 3 months.

Luckily all my SPS are pegged meaning they can be easily removed for dipping and placed back exactly where they were.

I panicked and went out and bought a small tank 10G tank with a filter.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Sahin,

Tony B suggests camel shrimps and a particular wrasse (I forgot its name now). If you contact him, I am sure he would advise you. As you know he is an AEFW veteran.

Sorry to hear this sahin. If anyone can get through this, I have no doubt you can make it happen. Seems like there is no worse plague in reef tanks than these buggers.

Ah crap.

Dip and scrape or frag worked for me. I forget, can you get something like Bayer over there?

I will never be convinced that I don't have them, but I haven' seen AEFW damage for months. Just when I thought I was rolling I got hit with Montipora Eating Nudis. :D It's hard to get ahead in this hobby.
