a simple sps tank

lol, everyone in the gang is doing ok matt buddy!
I've started feeding very much and many more foods and they all enjoy it:)
My yellow tang is history....he was fighting too much with gold rim and generally was a bit of a troublemaker so he met lfs's owners again:)
Now things are way calmer.
Crazy eye is starting slowly to show some blue color.Leucocheilus is growing and changing some of his colors too.
Emperor is developing some new lines and still nipping.Jax(MI) and chtenochaetus pretty much the same and quasimodo is and always be quasimodo:)

As for the tank i lay low on purpose matt.....since....since....i can't even say it....since i put sand back in the tank:)
Have lost count:p
Everything went ok,no major issues.I washed it with RO water and diatoms where minimal.
Put a sand sifting starfish to help keep it clean, plus i'm thinking to stir it up periodically.I've done it a couple of times to spread it everywhere and i got some really good PE after that.Maybe that was a coincidence.

Added a second vortech, removed BP's,a couple of new branches with some relocated corals
on them, changed left island's position a bit and i'm really thinking of using after many years carbon and antiphos, now that the reactor is empty.

I'll try to get home early and get some pics tomorrow matt, thanks for stopping by bud:beer:

Mike,
Yeah, let's get those pics up bud!!! I would love to see some pics of your tank:)

Thank you too,so much for the interest perry:beer:
Came home early but i didn't manage to get a descent pic:(
I don't mind them being a bit blue but they where blurry,so i deleted them.I'll try again tomorrow with different settings:thumbsup:

Only those two came out a bit nice.
It's my "branching" habbit,lol
Now i "branch" even on corals:p
Took an old dead coral as a base, glued it onto my red digi and placed my "sneaky bello" suharsonoi:)

The thing is that as i was trying to get pics(which means that i spent more time to the tank than usual) i saw jax(MI) nipping hard some of my sps and the brain:(
That's the first time he made some damage spots on the corals.Emperors nips too but never leave marks.Just some polyp retraction.
Wish he stops in the next few days.I'd hate to take him out

Thanks for the update Mike! You need to invent a retractable sand bottom for your tank - then you could change it every day:p

Love the 'branch'. :) Hopefully Jax stops nipping!
Thanks mark, glad you like it buddy! That branching thing has become a hard to stop habit.I like it a lot:p
Unfortunately jax didn't stop nipping so he belongs to tank's history now:(
Wish he hadn't.He was a really cool fish to watch. He was always nipping at almost every coral but never did serious damage.I guess now that grew up his teeth or mouth size wasn't so easy to handle.

Emperor has the same behaviour but no damage there. At least for now:)
Yellow tang left the building too.Was fighting all the time with the gold rim so trap and to the lfs.
Having my fish gang getting smaller in numbers puts me into thoughts that maybe it's time to get an achilles again. We'll see

Love the look of the acro's glued there! :)
Thanks dom, happy you like it mate!
I like seeing things hanging over the air and always try to place things in that way.Sometimes it's silly tbh lol

lol
True matt!
There a soccer stadium in germany that has a retractable field.
Will consult them so i can do the same:p

Looks like what i dreaded coming out from under the bed when i was a little kid Mike - like some god awful monster's clawed hand coming to get me.

There's a fine line between 'creepy' and 'Amityville Horror' scaping Mike and you just crossed it............. bravo

Having a lot of things to deal with in your life and making changes in the tank is always a challenge or 100% wrong:)

So taking out my BP reactor led to some kind of imbalance regarding my bacterial population.
No3 started rising up gradually. That caused a pause in corals growth which in turn resulted in some high levels of kh-10 and ca-520.
Unfortunately i didn't make tests to see what was going on so i used vodka to deal with the continuously rising No3.
Vodka and high kh is never a good combination....
I'd never use it but silly me,didn't make a test before i start the usage of carbon source.
I always rely on my corals look but having so little time to do it and my confidence in my corals made me skip it.

I haven't used carbon in maybe 5 years. So the water had almost always a slight yellow tint.Thought it was time to try it again.See if i was missing something all these years.
Used seachem matrix.
That made the water super clear.I was really impressed.
The thing is that the tank now was really really brighter compared to the no carbon era.
Some corals may got too much light at the time.

So the use of vodka with high kh,the extra clear water or the combination of those two led to some white tips.
Left them as they were just in case they could fight it of.
Unfortunately algea started growing on the tips and that's never a good sign.At least it's a take action sign.

When i started cutting of the tips i discovered they where very fragile.
So my initial plan of cutting the dead tips took a turn in cutting the coral up to the point the skeleton is strong.
After spending sometime underwater that's the result.

Thank god no coral losses, just some "shorter" and smaller acros.
Ah what the @#$& they'll grow back again:)
Later, when the lights are on i'll get some more pics

Mike! Sand..... Nice!!
You are the master of the overhang so I love the 'suharsonoi hang' awesome!!
Do you worry about the digi being strong enough down to road to hold the growth weight? Whenever I have had digis, I have always found them to be very fragile.
I think it's a good idea to cut away odd skeletal growth.. It allows the coral to begin growing properly again.. I did something similar to a Fiji coral that had amazing colour and growth at the base but very poor health on the ends.. I decapitated it!!
I hope the changes work themselves out, Mike.

I don't think Mike does much worrying...its part of his charm:thumbsup:

Bummer to hear about the issues Mike but I'm glad you're not stressed and I'm sure things will come back in no time!! Are you going to keep with carbon and/or vodka? Or let things settle and move to something else??

Some more pics would be nice too... hint hint ;)

Nice 'trim' there.

Glad to hear the KH spike wasn't worse. I never ran carbon either but when I started working on my polyp plague I put some in and it was if I bought starfire glass for the tank, everything was less yellow and green. :D
