A Smart? Aquarium in Taiwan...

Do you mean some of the guys in Taiwan are making instant reefs and then constantly changing out acros they can't keep colored up ?

I meant many reefers in Taiwan can have a nice coral corner in tank or just a few spots, but usually the concept of aquarium safety or backup plan pretty poor. So a nice tank won't survive long enough and easy encounter crash by equipment malfunction or unplanned event (e.g. power outage)

However, reefers in Taiwan help each other, we are willing to rescue friend's rare coral before tank crash or RTN/STN, transfer entire coral or frag to a new tank. So, even hard to see a nice tank run for years, but coral always somehow survive.

Sandbad and live rock face some brown algae & diatoms issue still, which I think it triggered by feeding more after adding school fish. However, coral seems no affect, some new color and grow develop recently.

Great FTS update, lots of great color!! What is your favorite acro in your tank currently? Just wondering.

Really can't tell which one love most, but I may feel sad most if lost my big SSC, since she is the only coral cost more than US$100 and have to wait for two months to get her. Some rare coral I maybe able to get them again from friends easy. I love my blue staghorn a lot because I believe once he grow and run true blue, may easy pop-up color for the entire tank. These probably two I love most. (I hope other corals won't hear this and upset:rolleyes:)

Nice pics and nice acros mate :) what species is number 8 if you know ?

It came with a shipment of Indonesia wild caught about two months back. I think (and I hope) it is a blue Staghorn Acropora. Other LSF just call it blue Staghorn, but this store just call it wild-caught SPS. It was very blue under LFS LED. It is also more blue in my tank under T5 compare to the #8 picture, but still not true blue I would said.

I know what you mean by the term true blue in relation to stags mate, it's about one in every twenty identical looking blue stags that will light up like a blue xmas tree when all the others just have blue highlights. It hasn't been long so i hope yours settles in well and colors up the way you hope it will
I meant to say earlier, you've done a great job of contrasting both your colors and growth when i look at those FTS's. I love that tunnel going through the scape you see from the end view. :)

I read some paper mentioned yellow and blue are easy color for SPS, but true blue and true yellow seem most challenge to me ;-(
The tunnel is design for water pass through to center since I choose lagoon type aquascape. I like the tunnel a lot too, but found at the center still has less turbulent than two sides, may consider add a nano Tunze attach overflow wall at the bottom to create additional turbulent for the center part. What do you guys think?

As mentioned in Biggles thread...I did some weekend work, but that came with an unexpected small fire disaster and burn my Apex controller.... Dammit

I red Neptune manual and realized that Tunze to Apex cable can be DIY. Yes, I did, but I put the wire up-side-down and burn my Apex control...Stupid me:headwalls:

My lesson learns are....

1. Shih, don't DIY yourself, you are not qualify to do smart work...
2. If really want to try it, use a separate Apex module with V1/V2, V3/V4 port like VDM module, don't try it on Apex main controller, it is hard to replace...

Ouch!! That sucks about the apex... Well at least only the apex burned and not your house!
I have not been able to keep yellow in my tank at all. Every yellow coral I add turns green. Somebody told me that yellow is lower light. If you put a yellow coral up high, it will turn green. I added a yellow coral last week and I put it very close to the bottom.. I'll see how it goes..
Shih, your tank is looking so mature and nice!
Looks really awesome right now..
I never say no to more flow, if you can add a pump without it sticking out a lot..

Ouch, sorry about the controller. I avoid DIY for the same reason, too much brain power required. :D Tank is looking good!

Thank you. The good news is after check it by my HW team, it really just damage V4... So, now means I have two complete Apex system.... Maybe I should turn my water mixed system to Apex ready...

Oh, BTW, regarding more flow, I am also thinking more light. (To take care coral grow to two sides that my ATI not able to cover fully).. Due to I don't want lots of power line float on top of tank, I am thinking add two Kessil A360WE tuna sun (what is the different of tuna sun and tuna blue?)? What you guys think?

I will draw on Sketchup later to share my idea....

I think the difference between tuna sun and the blue is described in their names..
The blue has more blue in the spectrum. The sun has a lower k rating..
This is my assumption. I am not certain.
If it were me, I'd be adding the tuna blues..

Make sense, and if so, tune blue do look like what I need.

Here is my original idea of adding Kessil LED light, but ......maybe bad idea

A few concerns bother me...
1. I heard Kessil gooseneck is not that great, and not sure if I can tilt it to the way I want instead of straight down as it design for.

2. If I tilt it, how much it effect coral grow toward to Kessil light source, which it is definitely not what I want.

3. Not sure if my wife walk around my tank will complain the LED light since it is tilt, I hope not......

Well.. The way I look at it, your #3 should be your #1 concern and if the wife won't be happy, you won't be happy!
Problem solved...
Don't get them.. :)

Great build! I have read hundreds of builds on this forum, and I must say this is the best one in creativity and coral layout!!! Amazing!! I wish I lived in Asia everything seems to be cheaper there.

Hmmm about your Kessils I will be careful. Different brands/company of LEDs have different effect on coral coloration. I personally wouldn't mess with what you have now. If the growth is amazing and the corals are growing happy why mess with it? I am just afraid the addition of the Kessils will make your growth patterns different as you stated before, or even worse turn the colors of your corals to different colors to what you don't like at all, and we all experience its very hard to 'change' the colors back.

I for one know that LEDs change colors of Acans, but you don't have any so your main concern be the SPS's reactions.
