A Smart? Aquarium in Taiwan...

The sand in your tank helps complete that "bring the reef home" theme you have. Nice indeed.

Is your sand easy to maintain?

Does it get blown around in your tank much?

What brand of sand is it?

Thanks,
Chris
Tampa FL

It is Zeovit aragonite sand.

It is easy to maintain when I have many starfish :) I got about 20 of them.

I also siphon over the entire tank every other week, so it is clean enough. It did not get brown, but will from time to time get some coralline alge stick on surface, so often siphon sand bed help to slow that process. Note that I did not replace sand since day one for 27 months now.

It is 12mm. I tried to go thicker but then worry all my algae cleaners fail so stop at 12mm. Yes, it is a open top, rimless tank with water level at 53 cm in height.

If you check careful from side view, will see glass curve a bit, but really not a big deal.

Wow cool! I am planning for a 120 l by 90 w by 45h braceless at 12mm. Just a tad jittery on if it would hold up in the long term. [emoji51] knowing yours is fine is a shot in the arm.

Should be fine. Mine is 132 cm long and as mentioned, 53 cm water level, so your should be ok.

However, one note is... In Taiwan, tank maker also add a solid glass tube (about 8mm diameter) between two glasses 90 degree connection for reinforcement, but I don't think 45 cm high need to worry about that.

Wow, the reinforcement is quite well hidden though, can't really see it! [emoji106]

One tank maker is very confident of doing it without bracing but some others insisted it can't be done and its has to be 15mm. So it got me worried a little. [emoji16]

I once very against the glass tube since my Elos 80 did not have it and look great, but then I found adding it also help avoiding some cleaner crew eating the glue, and the tank maker did a great job on that, so... I am happy with that.
BTW, my tank maker also rejected to take the project if I insist remove the reinforcement. haha...

slightly re-arrange my KHG position. Make it higher than sump water to avoid pump fail and unexpected siphon....

Cool! Thanks for the info! :) btw mind taking a shot of that nicely done glass tube?

A few coral went STN last month so I ran three times 30% water change in a week and increased NO3 a bit to 5 ppm. It seems do effect coral color so get darker"¦.(sigh...)

Now STN seems stop, so I may lower NO3 to 0.2ppm again after a month observation

Beautiful system Shih, what do you use to raise the nitrates?

The way I raised NO3 is increasing fish feeding from twice to three times a day, adding different food source (see below), and placed three new fresh livestock to my refugium section. I am surprise my PO4 can keep at 0~0.02 ppm still.

Did you get the chance to update your Kessil?

Sorry, I haven't yet since my wife took the only iPad we have when she visited her parents last weekend. Is that true, Kessil APP still only support on iPad but not iPhone? I can't find Kessil APP when search it on my iPhone APP store.

iPhone is supported, you should be able to download it from the App Store. I would update the firmware first though.
