A Smart? Aquarium in Taiwan...

Sorry, it was made by one of my friend (PM background) using 3D printer with his CAD drawing. I don't have it. All I have is a CAD drawing on my tank to show him my idea in scale, and he made a much nicer one for me.

This friend, recently gave his 3D printer away to my other friend (a SW engineer) as a gift, and immediately my second friend made a similar overflow (see picture below) after 48 hours received the printer... So I assume it is not that complicated to draw and print (hahaha), but I really don't know since I do not own a 3D printer.

These new pictures will help. I did some looking locally and there are a couple of new retailers in my area that offer 3D printing services. Your pics will help as a reference so thanks a lot!

Shih,

Very nice Article. Congrats on the publishing.

I looked back at your thread and a few setup photos.
Really admired your tidy setup.

I don't have as much stuff as you do, but I also did some very neat wiring (with proper runs, conduits and wiring distribution). Neatly tie wrapped etc.
It looked amazing when I finished.

Then, over time...It all kind of came apart since you have to remove a pump, heater to clean. Change a pump that was on left side, to right side, etc....

What was perfect changes over time.

I've learned that I have to keep things open ended/flexible/adjustable and not permanent. (Cable lengths have to be considered).

Networking background and cabinet wiring experience helps. Or sometimes hinders since lan/wan wiring isn't as dynamic as a fish tank setup.

What is your experience? Did you have to go thru changes to get to the tidy setup you have now. Very impressive!!

Instead of saying something hold me back rather this is a "choose" I take.

I have spent many times trying to convince KHG team spend time and effort on something else, but they decide to shoot for correction ;-)

Since I have Apex DoS and GHL Dose2.1, I rather do alkalinity correction part remotely but perceivably.....

Knowing exactly how much alkalinity fluctuated with a fix baking soda dosing volume is one best way I could know directly my coral growing rate turn up or down in a short period of time, so I can prevent bad thing happen ahead of time....

I don't understand. If it corrected the ALK, there is no way to track how much was added so that you would know the fluctuations?

Not sure why it took me so long to find this thread but I am glad I did. Spent hours going through your progressions from design to completion and various travel pictures in between. Truly inspirational and amazing reef.

My understanding it automatically correct if off in a certain limit. It won't do large correction if off too much. The idea is to avoid device error on wrong judgement and cause even serous issue by over dosing. Current software has very simply log so I don't think you can tell how much HKG correct for you (but I am not 100% sure). KHG will release a new version of its firmware and it has many GUI enhancement which could include a log for tracking, but again, I don't know for sure.

I used to have difficulty when I had a fresh water container on top of my sump, which block my way to unplug some core for pump maintenance, but then I decide to move my fresh water container on dry side.
Basically, these kind of wire organizer help.

I also had issue on old GHL doser since it only can manually change things by using its LCD, so last years I retired all four GHL units and replaced by Apex DoS and GHL Doser2, which all have cloud feature so I can adjust remotely. Plus I rearrange my air tube set so I can move doser without need to disconnect these tubes.

I can't understand not being able to see what was added when and how much.

But you do understand there is no alkalinity auto measure device before KHG hit the market, right ;-)

Here is a dump from log. As you can see, the old firmware does very limit on log...

Spent this morning to tidy up Sump Room. :)

Kidding, took a bit longer.... I still am looking for a better solution for removable maintenance.
I like Your idea of wider runs with the clip connectors inside the Slotted wire conduits. (I will make that improvement).

Hey Shih, very nice article!
Very comprehensive and it shows off your system well.
Nice job!
I especially liked the final two photos. The red acro and the ice fire are stunning!
I can't imagine having a tank burn down.. was only your tank burnt, or did you have house damage as well?

This is a great set of before and after picture. You did a great job. Mind if I share to my friends in Taiwan?

I read an video clip from reef builder and stated that in Europe, due to space limitation, people only can afforad one tank, and no fish room, so folks like to spend effort to make the only tank to ultimate level. I think that also apply to Taiwan, Japan, Korea.

There is no house burn down (thank God). It was just my acrylic sump burnt but it cause the entire house with poison smoke and ash. The house cleaning service cost is way expensive, though.

Since then I don't use acrylic sump any more, no matter how good looking and easy to organize, even from royal exclusive dreambox ;-)

That is a beautiful reef!

Thanks.
Maybe because I trimmed some darken colonies and expect their small frags can grow with better color ;-)

That looks so natural. Amazing reef man

Thanks.

I like this new layout.
Plenty of room to grow it into something very nice.

Haha... Honestly, major reasons I trimmed some of my SPS colonies are 1) cut darker part to stimulate their new grow; 2) wife force me to cut to let her see through dining room when she sit in living room.

So... for item #2, I probably have to keep coral grow wider instead higher. Not sure how I do that, especial I don't want to touch my green staghorn acropora. So afraid it will fall down when trimming.

new salt and some relayout....
Shih,

Wow!!! Really nice layout, and color arrangement with excellent contrast.
The Green Staghorn is perfect for the center piece.

You mentioned you changed salt. I also noticed you mentioned in the article that you do Water Changes with perfectly matched salt parameters as TANK.
I find that a challenge since most salts are higher Alk.
So one way is to buy low ALK salts and buffer up,
or another is to add Acid to bring Alk down (after aeration to bring PH back up).
What is your method to matching parameter of new Water to Tank Water?
