Achilles Tang Primer

tear drop

tear drop

Folks - any idea on: why the tear drop on my AT is not solid orange red, but instead, it is more like "a patch of wet paint with a fingerprint"?

i am trying my best to describe it...

So what should i do to help? it has been eating very well on pellet and nori and etc in the last few months since i have got it... The AT is about 4 inches long and is healthy as far as i can observe..

Doesn't this fish have a paint-dab orange splotch when a juvenile, and only get the defined teardrop once full adult?

Update on mines. I did a 9 week fishless DT and treated all the fish in cupramine. Well unfortunately I had a few that didn't make it. Flame Hawk, Flame Angel, and pygmy angel, and Randall's goby. My Achilles has been ich free for over a month now in the DT. I'm so glad to have gotten rid of ich. These fish just cannot thrive in an ich infested tank. Now he's super healthy as can be. :celeb1:

Yup, when I got mine it was just a small "streak" and now his teardrop is huge. The pic that is my profile is from 8 months ago, he's grown another inch since then and the teardrop has also gotten bigger :-)

thats what i meant....

More than likely it is surface level damage caused by different scuffles with other fish. What is your aggression like in the tank? I notice you have a Powder Blue, they are generally a bad mix with Achilles. Might keep an eye out on how they interact.

Nice AT.. does he eat any pellets ? I have one in QT for 8 weeks now almost ready for DT. he had a case of popeye for a bit . . he eats just bout everything exept for pellets.

He hates my black tang with a passion.... He changes color when he is chasing him around.

I'm assuming maybe the lateral erosion has him a little agitated? Usually they only have the gray on the chest when they are ticked off or angry at something ;-) Mine is jet black until something like a misplaced algae magnet makes him mad, then he turns straight gray with blue eyes.

Just had to post, i've had my achilles for about a year and a half...he's grown about 2" since I got him and is now about 6". During that whole time the only thing I could get him to eat has been nori...today, totally out of the blue he decided he now loves NLS pellets. I was amazed and stunned, but very happy :-)

Ironically, NLS pellets were the first thing I got my AT eating with gusto. The pellets and nori are his favorites, he's still not a big fan of mysis.

I must've been pretty lucky from the start because my achilles will eat anything i put in the tank. The only thing it was hesitant on was mysis and that was just the first few weeks.

Just hit my first milestone with my achilles. Hes been with me a year now and doing awesome. Heres to many more little buddy! :xlbirthday:
