Achilles Tang Primer

There's a hybrid in my lfs but my tanks only five foot although it is extremely open and I have very high flow but think I may be on the small side. Although I have no other tangs and no plans of getting any.

I finally decided to move him to my display tank.

New Achilles Tang that I picked up on Tuesday, tiny bit of whitespot but I'm gonna leave him be and see how is goes - if things get worse I've got some medicated food on standby.

just feed pe mysis or any other shrimp, rinse it, and then put selcon and garlic extreme and let it soak for 30 mins then feed it every day and it should get better

Treat it for ich. If you let it be it'll just infect your other fish.

I almost lost this guy due to ich a month after I got him a year and a half ago. He does not see well on one side but still eats well

I recently purchased a Achilles tang about 6". He's picking at the rock but not much else. What garlic are you guys referring to to entice him to eat? A certain brand or garlic cloves from the local market. If the latter, are grinding it up with a cheese grater or something. Forgive my ignorance on the subject. Please advise, thanks.

These fish are deemed 'difficult' for two main reasons. First, they are highly susceptible to skin problems, most commonly ich. Second, they can be problematic feeders. I've never found garlic useful and neither use it nor recommend it.

Did you QT this fish? I gather not. What foods have you tried?

My best advice would be to offer a broad range of things and hope it will find something appealing. My AT spent 4 months in QT and would only eat frozen brine. I was able to get it ultimately to eat the larger PE Mysis, but it never ate (still doesn't) the smaller hikari Mysis.

Try brine, both frozen and live, as well as live blackworms if you can find them.

+1 In addition if the Achilles is in a undersized tank with poor husbandry and lack of flow this will all be contributing factors as to why its not eating

220 gallon tank .mostly lps, trying sps for first time but they are sstill growing. 4 mp40 wes for flow plus the jebao dct 12000 return pump from a 100 gallon rubber maid sump and 40b fuge. Reefing for about 12 years. And have housed an Achilles tang before I tore down my tank to move to Missouri from Northern Indiana. Have tried nori romaine lettuce, frozen brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, and NLS 1MM pellets.

I've tried putting the food into the flow of the power head. I keep nori on clip constantly. Even tried to crumble some up into the water flow. Haven't heard of Larry's food, will look into though. Thanks for the suggestions calorie and scuzy. Willing to try any and all to keep this fish. He's a beauty

I used Kent Marine Garlic for mine

this what I do, take PE miss, put it in water, then rise all the water out.

Then put Kent Marine Garlic and Selcon, let it soak there for 20 mins, then feed it.

Mine also eats the Aglae Max New Life Spectrum 1 mm pallets, it does not eat any other NLS pallets.

You can also soak the algaemax pelletes in selcon to add some nutritional benefits.
