You also might try different types of nori. My AT initially only ate the purple stuff.

All of my fish prefer the purple nori over the green and red. Seems weird to me since the red is actual seaweed from the ocean and not processed into sheets. Good thing I bought the Julian Sprung bulk packs of the gree and red recently since none of my fish seem to like it, but they tear the purple stuff up...

You have to train them to not be picky :) Mine weren't super fond of the other colors at first either, but let them get used to it and they'll attack it the way they do everything else. I originally put both colors on the clip at once, folded up into a triangle so they had to munch through the green to get to the purple, etc. They devour the red, but were apprehensive at first because it didn't "look" like nori.

I have been doing this for the last 2 months now, they just eat around the red and will eat some of the green but leave as much as they can and only seem to pick at it when they get desperate

Mine inhales any of the green, but still won't touch the purple. Initially years ago when I got him, I put some of the nori thru the vortech and he immediately started eating as it came shooting out shredded, always ate nori after that.

Got anyone looking to get an AT, I'd highly recommend divers den. It's definitely worth the price to get a healthy, ich free fish. All my fish are QTed so my tank is ich free. It saves me a lot of worry.

I couldn't agree more. I just received my X-Large (6 to 7 inches) AT from Live Aquaria on Tuesday and I was very impressed with the packaging. They sent him in a big box that must of had at lease 10 Gallons of water in there. It was like they shipped him in a 10 Gallon tank. He was swimming around very peacefully when I unboxed him and didn't seem stressed at all.

It's now Saturday and no sign of ICH :). He wasn't eating the first few days and I tried everything. I took some rock from another tank that had some good algae growth on it and it worked. He has cleared half the rock. I did see him picking at the NORI today as well when I attached to a rock instead of a veggie clip.

He is in a 125 Gallon tank all by him self with live rock to pick at and will be going into my 300 Gallon tank after 8 weeks of QT. My 300 Gallon is 10' long and has massive water movement via my closed loop system. I added extra power heads to the 125 tank, because these fish love a lot of flow and he seems to love it.

Post some pics when you have time dotcommer, would love to see him! Ours is about 7 1/2" right now and I love the look of the big guys ;-)

Achilles Tang Primer

I wasn't looking for a giant one but this guy is eating everything, anything and very mild manner even my 2.5" PBT hybrid x white cheek chase him around for first 3 days.

He is at least 8" loves to swim back and forth my aquascape allowed it to do so. I think that's the biggest challenge with this guys get them to eat, stress and a space for them to swim freely.

I try to qt them but they still gets ick and I can't go fallow again for 72 days so I just qt for velvet.

I will take some pics and vids and post them.

Any suggestions on getting them to eat. He always hides when I come around the tank, so I watch him through my webcam and he is picking at the rocks and swimming a lot more when I am not around. I just can't see if he is eating any of the meaty foods I put in.

Should I look at getting some live rock from local reefers that have algae issues?

I think they are all different and you just have to try lots of foods. Mind only really took to spirulina brine while in QT. Was enough to sustain it for the four months. Once in my DT it immediately started to eat nori (seeing the other tangs feeding from the clip has always worked to get a new addition interested). From there it gradually expanded its diet to include LRF, NLS Algae max and regular 1mm pellets and then lastly mysis.

Definitely all different. Mine started on brine then it ate mysis like a pig. You could also wrap some nori on a piece of rock.

Mine took about 4 days till he ate, I ended up running nori thru the vortech so it was shooting out at him all shredded. He loved it and immediately started eating off the clip after that. My friend had success by rubber banding nori on a piece of live rock.

Finally started eating Nori from a clip and eating frozen food from the waterway. Some frozen he just spits out, but some he eats. :-)

Nice. I would try the shredded route with the nori as well, to see if it will pick from the water column. I have a picky Naso, which would not eat anything but nori hanging from the magnet, but shredded some by accident in a powerhead with pellets floating around in the column, and it started eating pellets.

Now, it's a hearty eater of anything.

I will try that out. He is finally getting used to me and is now eating in front of me. He is pretty much trying out all the frozen food I put in there and spits out what he doesn't like. Plus no white spots for 5 days, thank God.
