My Hammys were good for me, I just added 2 VHO actinics to them and it got a lot bluer. They also seemed to get duller and duller to me. It's back to 10K for me :D.

according to sanjays plots your 10K ReefLux's will be around 70 for PAR...so i don't think so. These bulbs run brighter on electronic ballasts(i also have a Magnetic)
But i was told by Anthony at Reef Exotics that our ballasts will allow for longer lamp life because we are not overdriving the bulbs like elec.'s would.

What is the average # of hours for a bulb to burn-in?

I just recieved my 10K and 12K. I talked to the manufacturer today and was told that the bulbs were designed to run on electronic ballasts. I fired up the 250se 10K and looked yellowish on the Blue Wwave VII Ballast (Sunlight Supply). The 400se 12K looked promising fired on the PFO HQI Ballast. As stated above better on the Eballast. We'll see because I just ordered 12 ballasts:eek2: He also mentioned that the burn in time is 100 hours. Hope this helps :)

100 hours sounds about right on my experience. I am on magnetic ballast and really thrilled with the color and growth seems to be good.

Travis,
How would you acclimate the tank to these new bulbs. As it stands the halides are on form 6PM to 10PM with VHO's on from 3hours before to 3 hours after.

The tank is pretty stocked with frags.

When I switch bulbs (any bulb) I always acclimate. Even when replacing your bulb with the same one you were using, you need to acclimate as the old one loses intensity over time. There are many different ways to acclimate. The way I go with is breaking the light cycle into 2 separate periods. Run the actinics all day and have the MH's come on twice a day for 30 minutes each time. A few days later add 15 minutes to each "on" time. And so on and so on until you are back to your full period. I'm usually back to my full lighting period after 3-4 weeks.

Thanks for the info. I'll try something like this out. Don't want to bleach everything out.

How are the 10k reeflux's working for the 400 hqi users longer term. Going to 10k was going to get xm's but these bulbs look promising too.

I recently swapped out my XM 10k for the Reeflux 10K. HQI 400w PFO ballast.

Very pleasing light, a tad less bright, but seems to be brightening the colors a little after about 2 months. Best way to describe the color is an XM 10K mixed with a VHO 50/50---a little "pinkish".

John

Still love mine on the HQI, &, counter to XM's NONE OF THEM HAVE CRACKED OR FAILED OTHERWISE YET!--The Reeflux's that is!

They're also all running the same color output visually.......unlike XM10k's I've had that were anywhere from super blue to yellow. :(

TT

besides acclimation issues weren't the old coralviews giving people troubles with bleaching.

I assume they aren't doing this as people would have posted that experience and from your post no of cracking and flakyness.

Yes, I heard of bleaching with the old ones, but I never ran them.

My guess is they had a high par, or, some had a higher pary, if there was variance between batches; and that caused the bleaching.

I did have some lightening on part of my tank that went from an EVC14kk to the 10kk Reeflux, but nothing so much as to kill a coral.

How much more growth are you getting out of your Reeflux's, compared to the EVC's, if any?

Thanks

It does seem like they are growing a little faster with the Reeflux, but the main reason I switched was the EVC 14kk are just too blue for my taste.

Anyone switching from a lower K bulb have a major decrease in growth? I am have xm 10K that I have lowered to 5 hours per day with good results. I am starting to think I don't need such a high par bulb and would love something more blue........

Steve, your looking at my 12,000 k reeflux bulbs. I was at 20 before. No decreace in growth.

Would you say your growth is good with these bulbs? What ballast do you run?

P.S. Your full tank shot did not work! I also think you were right about the light. At 5 hours per day the tank is looking 100% better!

Growth is great. And the bulbs are pretty blue. With a hint of pink.

Are you going to jan meeting?
