Chip I was also running 10XMs on a Mag ballast.

Chip about 2 weeks ago today I changed to the reeflux's. I have been running them over 100 hours. Today I can say they still look a tad blue. Coming from all yellow/whote bulbs such as the Ushio and XMs this is a well deserved change.

Are you liking the blue I presume?

Also have you noticed any difference in growth? I know the PAR of the Reeflux 10k is substantially lower then the XM 10k.

Unless your aboslute number one priority is to grow sps like crazy I think you'll be very pleased with the color of the Reeflux 10k lamps. Personally, I think they look best on an electronic ballast. But I think you'll be pleased on a magnetic too.

Chip Douglas-

When you say overpowering do you mean too blue?

No, there is no blue in XM's. They are very, very bright white. That is what I mean by overpowering; their intensity seems to wash things out a bit. I like 10k bulbs and the fact that the reeflux have a lot of blue sounds like a really nice change to me.

If you have the right ballast and want a very chrisp blue you should look at the 20k Radiums.

If your running the Reeflux 10k on an M58 ballast the PAR is 70 while with the 20k Radiums the PAR is 85, not alot of difference but keep in mind the Radiums are made to run on HQI ballats.

I think you'll find that site very helpful in choosing your next bulb. I think I'm going to try the XM10k's when I switch over my tanks, just to try something different. And the bulbs are only $50 each.

I don't like radiums, that's way too blue for me. I like 10k bulbs, I just like the color the reeflux give off. I haven't seen them in person, but based on pics I like the look. I'm just curious about how they'll look on the PFO standard ballasts I have. I'm not going to buy new ballasts, and I don't really want a 20k bulb, it's just too blue.

Yeah Radiums on a standard ballast would look like hell, Radiums on an HQI ballast look like a 12k bulb.

Yes I'm likeing the hint of blue. It really is to soon to comment on growth.

I also agree that XMs are WOW when it comes to white. Ushios and XMs are all I ever knew. I bought a pair of used Hamiltons just to use for testing to see if I like them, Well They were to blue and to dull.

my 175W 12K's have 120 hours on them now.....I LOVE THE COLOR(it whitened up a little from original)....exactly what i was looking for!

That was my experience as well, way to blue at first but I love them now. I have even gone bact to supplimenting with the t5 actinic

Just got through reading this whole thread...

I have to replace bulbs at the end of the month and it looks like I will be changing to Reeflux 10K. I currently have 250w 10K XM's on a standard magnetic PFO ballast. I'm not too impressed with color or growth with the XM's - it has crossed my mind a few times that the XM's are TOO strong.

Lobsterofjustice...that is what I did. I had XM 10K's and when I went BB things started bleaching. Even when I reduced the hours the lights were on. I was running 4 hrs a day. So I sold them and tried the reeflux. I can run these bulbs 6hrs with no bleaching issues. The only thing is my 2 pink birds nests are not as bright as with the 10K XM's. Growth, from what I can tell is about the same.

how about the double ends?anyone useing them for 3 or more months have anything bad to say?i'm looking to replace my phoenix's and i don't use any actinic and would like to keep it that way because of my open top canopy.

Just got a Reeflux 12k 250w today. Not too impressed with the color so far. I came from running a Hamilton 14k before. I wasn't expecting these to be the same color, not as much blue. What I was expecting was a nice white color, with maybe a hint of blue. They are definetly brighter than the Hamiltons, but it seems pretty yellow so far. I'm running them on an Icecap ballast. So my question is, will they lost a lot of the yellow as they burn in? It seems like most people were saying the 12k's lost a lot of blue as they burnt in. When my wife walked in earlier she said "Those look green". It's a strange tint that I'm not too happy with so far. I'm gonna give them a week to burn in, but I might be going back to the Hamiltons.

I got mine off of ebay, there is an online vendor that sells them....haven't recieved them yet, but just ordered them Saturday night at midnight....

The 10k are more of a chrispy white with a hint of blue. I am not sure about the 12k. But if the bulb has been moved around alot or it was shipped badly, the bulb will shift color.
