Order 2 250 10K's today, they'll be here here tommorow morning. I'll be running them on Magnetic ballasts. Post pics as soon as I can.

It sure is hard to pick bulbs from pics on the internet.

Tell me about it. I've been trying to decide for months and my best guess so far is buy 3-5 seperate bulbs then sell the ones I don't like at a substantial loss :(

Yep, that's why I have the Reeflux 10k and 12k lamps. Because I wanted to try them for myself. If I could run 4 lamps I'd run two Reeflux 10k and two Reeflux 12k. That, to me, would be the perfect combination.

tjay,

Are those 10K's, if so they look alot more intense than phihlets 12K's.

One thing that will visually make a difference, in my opinion, is the color of the background of your tank. I have a blue back wall. It looks like Tjay has a black back wall and I think the color of the backgrounds tend to make lighting look different. My tank is also a 125 with 2 lamps so the dimensions are different than Tjays too.

I have both the Reeflux 10k and the Reeflux 12k and the 12k lamps definately don't appear as bright as teh 10k.

I got my 175 SE 12K's......just fired them up about 15 minutes ago
First impression is that they are very nice.....a little blue for my taste(my 1st non-10K though)...but have been told by everyone thats used the 12K that they burn more white after a little time.
They aren't as bright as my Hammy 10K's, But they are not like a 20K at all(reminds me of a Phoenix 14K at first)

I will post again in a few weeks when they burn in a little.(come to think of it, right now they kinda look like my VHO set-up...but brighter)

you got 10K's right?

Yup :D, just wondering if I'm gonna have acclimation problems going from the Hammy 14k's to these...hmmmmm...

according to sanjays plots your 10K ReefLux's will be around 70 for PAR...so i don't think so. These bulbs run brighter on electronic ballasts(i also have a Magnetic)
But i was told by Anthony at Reef Exotics that our ballasts will allow for longer lamp life because we are not overdriving the bulbs like elec.'s would.

What is the average # of hours for a bulb to burn-in?

I'm not sure about the # of hours for burn in, but I would guess its something close to 2 weeks or like 50-60hours.

I got my bulbs from Anthony too. Can't wait to turn these bulbs on. Too bad my lights dont come on til 6PM.

The average # of hours for a bulb to burn in is 100.

PAR is not the only thing to consider when swithing bulbs and deciding how to acclimate. Switching spectrums also needs to be considered. Corals will need time to adapt to a different spectrum of light.

luckily for me i am coraless as of now then....cause i just went ahead and fired them up. I miss my corals, sold them to help support buying of my new system & the time between would have been too hard to do(only a 20G-which housed my fish for the 6 weeks i was in the in-between stage)

Travis,
How would you acclimate the tank to these new bulbs. As it stands the halides are on form 6PM to 10PM with VHO's on from 3hours before to 3 hours after.

The tank is pretty stocked with frags.

I feel the same way about the 250s SE Reefluxs there more then blue then I thought but I heard also that they will burn in more white.

I'm on 48-50 hours so far I will post pictures next week.

yea....to be honest, they could be brighter,But the color is very nice and when it whitens a tad it will be PERFECT-IMO
*what bulb did you replace?

bkz.....only 4 hrs. a day on mag. ballast should give you a LONG lamp lifespan!

I'm hoping for a good year out of them, hopefully it won't be hard to achieve that.

I replaced 2 XM 10ks, YEAH talk about change !!!!

This is the first that I have entered the realm of the Blues....

Well I always wanted a tad more Blue. I tried the hamilton 14k and they were more blue IMO. I used them for about 1 hour :).

I bought a set of used burned in Hammys to see if I would like them and well, I didn't:(
