interesting
anyone else running the 10Ks on mag ballast have the yellow problem?
It may not be a problem they really are not burnt in yet
but my 12Ks went from blue to white

I suppliment mine with 54 watt T5s
I had the 12ks and ordered 10Ks just to compare. So far I am not happy with the color of the 10K. They are yellow in my opinion. I do hope they burn in blue. Anyone else have burn in comments on the 10K

The Reeflux 10k does look the most yellow on a standard magnetic ballast in my opinion. They look the most "white" on an eballast. I don't really care for the look of them on a standard ballast. It seems that an HQI ballast runs them more "white" than a standard ballast too.

Hope this helps.

I was told that the Reeflux would not fire & burn correctly on a M57

The M57, if I'm not mistaken, is a magnetic ballast for 175w bulbs. The M58, if I'm not mistaken, is a magnetic ballast for 250w bulbs. I would not expect the M57 to fire the Reeflux bulbs if that is the case. Are you sure you didn't mean M58?

Here's Sanjay's testing with numerous ballasts, including the M58:

I have been running the 400w 12k's on a pfo hqi ballast for 3 months and have been happy with them so far. I was running the xm 20k's on a m59 ballast but the growth was weak. The 12k's have better growth and I still get some blue out of them. I may try the 10k's just to see the look first hand.

This is from Coralvue
Hello

The ReefLux 10K bulb is not nothing else on the market. The bulb has a

crisp

white appearance to it, but what is unique about this lamp is that it has a
large spike in the 450nm range which is a blue spectrum. This is what gives
corals a great color. The Reeflux gives you the best of a 10K lamp for
growth and a 20K for color. It is the Ultimate reef lighting bulb.

The M57 will fire the ReefLux lamps, but I do not recommend using it with
that ballast. The problem is that the ReefLux need a large output voltage

to

fire them. The M57 does not have the punch to always fire the RL. If your
capacitors are new than you can try it out. I would recommend you try a
eballast for these bulbs so you can get the full benefit of the light
output. The M57 will not drive the bulb to its full power.

>>Let me know if we can help.

I still think you missed the point or did I miss someone using a m57
I run M58 and looking at Sanjays findings the M58 should do fine

TJay,

If you look at the spectral outputs for the 10K Reeflux the m58 magnetic ballast (the purple line) produces less intense results compared to the other ballasts. At the significant blue spike it's over 20% less.

I don't know what to do then. We're unhappy with our 10k XM's, but it doesn't look as if we'll get anything better out of the 250w Coralvue Reeflux on our PFO standard ballasts.

Maybe try the 12K Reeflux, that's what TJay had before he tested the 10ks. Hell, his 10ks aren't even burned in yet, you can still follow up with him to see if his burn in.

The 12 Ks were real nice, I may go back to them but like the man said it took 10 days to two weeks for those to burn in.
So I will give these some time and then post pics
serveral people in the Dallas area got the 10Ks and noone seemed unhappy with them

What ballasts are you using? What did you use on the 12ks?

Same ballast on both the 10S AND 12S MAGNETIC m58
What ballast are you running Coral Nabber?

The PFO standard is very close to the m58, so I'm guessing the 10k or 12k would run just fine on them, I'm just not sure what they'll look like.

My 250W HQI is coming tmrw and my 10K RL DE bulb this tuesday I will post pics when I get them in, on this combination i get a truer 10-11K color w/ PAR in the 100+

PFO, guess it is basically a m58 from what I've heard

What ballast are you using to run the 250w 10k reeflux?
