Anyone tried the Coralvue Reeflux 10k bulbs?

1-2 weeks..starts to look a bit purple

3-4 weeks you should see the real color

Depends on the # of hours you burn each day.......

Mine have since turned a little pink but they have only been running for a total of 10 hours I'd guesstimate.

Hey guys,

I have been following this thread for a while and it caused me to decide to use reeflux bulbs on my new 180G. I am running three 250W 10KK bulbs in lumenarc reflectors with icecap ballasts. The problem is that the color of the bulbs is not the same.

I burned each bulb in for 48 hours before using it and they have been over the tank for 2 weeks running 8 hours per day. Is this normal? Has anyone else seen this? Any ideas on how to "fix" it?

I think the left is perfect, the middle is too yellow and the right is half way between right and center.

i have the exact same problems.

different coloured bulbs.

i find if you rotate the bulbs so that nipples are pointing straight up. they are the most similar..

But even then, the bulbs are pink as heck on icecap 250w SE

I've had mine for over a month now with the same pink problem.

I personally hate the look of the bulbs but oh well,.. maybe i just got 3 unlucky bulbs.

Has anyone seen this?

I bought 10K reeflux last October and the inside of the envelope is clear. My bulbs burn white/blue after burn-in on IC ballast. A friend bought 2 bulbs 2 months ago and the inside of his envelopes are clear with white edges. His bulbs after burn-in don't look anything like mine. He also uses IC ballast. They look like the middle of ricka bulbs. We did a side by side and there is a big difference. I wonder if they changed something inside the bulbs. Also, mine came in plain white boxes and his were in blue boxes with reeflux writen all over it. He has given the bulb 2 months of burn-in and they are still pink. He has switched back to XM. I am still running mine. We have also tried rotating the nipples and different IC ballast. Still the same.

Thanks
BP

Interesting observation. Mine came in the blue boxes marked Reeflux. Mine have now showed a slight 'pinkness' to them while still a hint of blue. I'm going to run them for another month or so to allow full burn in and from there I'll make my decision. May try the 12k or look at the EVC 14k's.

Got mine back then too...same packaging, same ballast, same white/blue. I prefer the look over the 250 XM10K SE. I think its as white with a bit more blue, but really brings out the blue tips on my SPS. btw...nipple is about 2 o'clock.

Two of my bulbs came in blue boxes, one was white. I don't know which one is which but I'm guessing that the middle bulb came in a white box.

Overall I really like the bulbs. My SPS are responding better than they were to the XM bulbs, I just wish the color was consistently something instead of the rainbow I have now.

elephen, TA and ricka.

What does the inside of the envelope look like on your bulbs. Are they clear or clear with white edges?

The left and the middle have white edges, the right bulb is clear. Weird.

Interesting, maybe they have changed something or have a different bulb manufacturer. All I know is, our bulbs look completely different and I don't like the way the new bulbs look.

I've been talking with CoralVue and David asked me to post this message:

If you would please let anyone else know that if they are not happy with the
color they have with the ReefLux bulbs to let us know and we will get it
corrected. These bulbs are specially made in Japan for Reef Aquarium
lighting and they take great pride in making sure the lamps are perfect for
this market, but with anything sometimes you have a bump in the road.

Thanks
David

I will be swapping all of my bulbs out to see if we can get the color to be consistent. This is great customer service IMHO.

Can you PM me with Davids contact info? My bulbs are still looking really yellow even after burn in. I even switched to Reef Fanatic ballasts!

clear with white edges straight out of the box

Almost forgot...
Completely clear. Not really sure what you mean by "edges" but there are no "white" parts on the "envelope". There is a number stamped on it: 510
Not sure what it means. Also, there appears to be a rust colored deposit inside.

On the inside envelope, near the edges, where the wires go into the envelope. All three of mine are just clear glass and my friends have a white strip at this part...like what the XM 10K envelope looks like. If you have seen a XM 10K to compare to.

Can someone take a pic???
