anyone tried to using Jebo WP40?

Let's be perfectly honest here. The WP40 by Jebao ($85.00) has a very similar model number to the Vortec MP40 ($465). And they have similar max flow rate of 3200gph. But the real similarity ends there. Sure they are both run by a controller, but the MP40 is very different in the design of the pump itself. That difference is so important as to make the comparison almost unfair. The Jebao has much more in common with the Tunze Stream 6105 ($345), at least in turns of the pump design. There is much more in common here than between the WP40 and the MP40. And the WP40 has an advantage here in the price differential, $85 vs $345. And until we get some indication of how well the Jebao pump is made and how well it lasts over time, it's hard to reach any honest and complete comparison.

But looking at just the flow rate, flow pattern and controllability is well worth doing. I just wish we could include a Tunze in the test. I don't have either and have virtually no experience with either. I created widely variable flow rates and patterns buy using a SCWD and spray bars on my sump return and a CL with Ocean Motion's OM4 and Revolution heads.

Of course. There are a ton of variables. Customer service is a clear winner in Ecotech's favor for example. I only have vortechs so I can't compare to tunze either.

My main comparisons would be how well they both move water, how coral responds, undertow, flow pattern, noise, sync/anti-sync etc. You won't get all the features of a Vortech, but can it perform 80% as well for 1/4th the price? We'll see.

Subscribed. I have a 75gal, so I'm waiting on the smaller version. About time there is a cheaper competitor.

if you guys with the 75g, if you keep SPS mainly then yes its ok. it seems too strong for softies and lps for your tanks.

i dont own a WP40 yet but i will get one next month

I have a 150g but many are saying it may be too much. Since I don't want a sandstorm I guess I'll wait and see...

USPS just delivered my two WP40s! Here is some actual size comparison

The entire unit is about 5 3/4" long but the part that is in the tank is about 5 1/4". This is to compare to the 2 1/4" of the Vortech MP40 wetside.

The diameter across is almost 4" compared to the 3 1/4" dia of Vortech MP40.

As expected they shipped me the European power cord. They were out of US power cord but I have plenty of extra cables so I told Fish-Street to go ahead and shipped me the unit anyway as I don't want to wait.

The light sensor is too tiny so make sure you look for it if you order this pump.

I will post some videos comparing the flows against MP40 later.

I sent an email to Jebao asking about it and they haven't replied in 43 days (and I suspect they won't ever). I saw on a Singapore site that they were saying after the Chinese New Year which is now past. So I'm hoping that it may come out any time now, but I have no good evidence to back it up.

It's in an agreement they sign to become a distributor for Eco Tech or Tunze. If they sell them at prices the mfg hasn't approved, they lose their distributorship. It allows them to cut out wholesalers (and keep more profits) and control the selling price so distributors are happy because it keeps their profit margin up as well.

It's a win-win-lose deal. The mfg wins-the dist wins-and the end user (you & me) gets screwed! :strooper:

We are in the business to make money right? Not sure about the complaining of price for ecotech and tunze. They have product that people want. Price is what it is. I own my own business and wish more company's would set min sale prices. I have to compete with the likes of Walmart, and trust me there is no way I can win. Not picking on you Ron, just used your quote to make point.

Here is a video of one single WP40 in my 125g tank in W1 mode. Everything is moving and the noise is very tolerable for me. You can see the MP40 side by side. MP40 is totally off in this video

Barry, I completely understand your point. I sold for a manufacturer that made distributors sign these kinds of agreements. It's the way of a market economy. And I never complained about the cost of a Vortec or Tunze in the past. I just didn't buy them.

But now that they may have a competitor, we'll see if it has any affect on their pricing now or in the future (probably the far distant future). It does give me pause to think that Jebao can make the pump and controller available for 1/4 the price of a Tunze. And I'm also surprized that Jebao would sell a 'controllable' pump without a speed control. Especially when it appears to be a very inexpensive 'extra'. I'm guessing that for very little extra cost they could have done it right and they would still be 1/3 the cost of a Tunze Stream 6105. My variable output DC power converter would be an easy solution and it only cost $12.

That's just 1 in a 6" tank? I might not even use 2 for my 125, that anemone was moving pretty well all the way on the other side.

I am afraid to put two WP40s in there as one is making waves similar to two MP40s. I will post another video comparing to the pulse mode with Vortech.

Very nice, I have 1 MP40 in my 75, and it does a pretty good job of moving water around by itself. Now that I've converted to a bare bottom tank though, I think I'd like better and more even flow throughout the tank. I may pick up 2 of the smaller units when they come out and sell of my MP40 and come out way ahead on the deal.

Here is a video of running two Vortech MP40s in Pulse Mode in sync at 100% power. I let you be the judge of sound level. This video is done with my iPhone 4S with no manipulation to the sound input. This is the reason I couldn't run them full power. It will drive me out of my office where my tank is.

Well, since I have two WP40s I just can't resist to put both in my 125g to see what they can do. Wow, the fish are struggling to stay in one place. The water surface is like a flowing river and the current in the tank stirred up a mini sand storm. Because the two pumps are not in sync so the waves seemed to cancel out each other but they are moving. I don't think anyone will need more than one in a 125g or less tank. All in all I am very pleased with the WP40. They are quiet and powerful. They seem to be well made and definitely a good value at this time. Now we just need to see how reliable they are and that only time will tell.

I'll buy your other one if you are only using 1 of your 2, unless of course you have another tank you are going to put it in.

I was going to put two WP40s in my 92g corner tank! Now I am pretty sure I only need one. I will keep the other one as backup. If WP40 is proven reliable after a couple months, I will be ordering two more WP40s and sell my two MP40s and have some cash in my pocket:wavehand:
