anyone tried to using Jebo WP40?

Thanks nuno, has that already been mentioned and I missed it? Lucky guess on my part. Anyway, how would the size of the pot be determined? Does the controller send the 5V line through a resistor for low? If so, could the value of that resistor tell us what size pot to use?

I know very little about electronics, but I can solder. Adding a pot seems like the way to go. I can't imagine why the manufacturer didn't put in a pot for speed control.

Am I correct to assume there would be no worries adding a pot to the 5V line? It's been mentioned that some ways of speed control might heat things up and damage the pump.

I don't think anyone has responded to this, but it makes sense to me. However I also am electronically challenged and would like to know if this is a good idea.

My WP40s are due in this week.

I received my first unit yesterday. I didn't expect it until this week. Maybe my second one will show up tomorrow.

I have not used it yet, so feedback to follow.

got mine yesterday and the thing came with the magnets together and they wont come apart. Also my pump sits all the way back into the craddle like the guy that posted a video a few pages back. very disappointed

the box was also smashed pretty good. not the shipping box but the box from Jebao on the inside

Mine was the same way.
The magnets were together. I was able to separate them, but remember thinking it was kind of stupid to put them together.

Also the pump is supposed to sit all the way back in the cradle.

Sorry about posting the E-bay link a couple of posts back. :(

Links are only bad when you're affiliated with the link/company that you post. So if you're the eBay seller, pls don't post, but if you have no affiliation with them, you're posting for the advancement of the hobby and to help others out. That should be ok. I haven't seen any of the other eBay links taken down yet.

Just a reminder and as I have seen mentioned. Linking to EBay or other selling sites is not allowed. Whether or not you are just "helping out" other reefers.

I do not think you are entirely correct. Please review the quoted post above. To be on the safe side, I would refrain from posting any link. This thread is too valuable to be closed.

It does to me and my family. It's out of the tank...probably got a bad sample?
I'll ask fish-street for a replacement impeller.

I'd go to FishStreet and Jebao and tell both that you want a new pump. I've had mine a while and it was never LOUD but when it was new it made a sound like yours but not nearly as loud. I have a great mike on my camera and it couldn't even pick up the noise. Sorry you got a bum one. Now we'll see how FishStreet and Jebao handle the situation. PLEASE keep us informed.

this thing is powerful my fish can't even swim in the flow
I have mine in a 180g and I don't think I'd put in two. I'm hoping the WP25 will be smaller physically to go along with less flow.

Odds are the moderator would remove the post and give the poster a warning. That link has been posted before and is still up. It's helpful and appropriate information. I suggest you go to the Feedback & Questions Forum and ask them what the rules are. I did and they are quite vague!
see it here: http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2278142
No Ebay links except sometimes and and also under special circumstances... blah, blah, blah. It sounded to me that it depends more on the mood of the moderator than on the link. Sorry RC moderators. But if I'm wrong, come on and post the straight answer.

Here is a video of my testing of a Jebao WP-40 wave maker vs my Tunze nano electronic 6055 and 6095 and stream 6065.

In my opinion the WP40 wins on wave action, but the Tunze win overall by making much less noise.

wow, you can seriously hear that wp40 going... I'm fairly certain that would drive me nuts :(

Frode you are pointing the pump straight ahead, which is causing the noise. You have to point it in another direction, maybe slightly up.

Post another video after you point it in another video to show how quiet it can be afterwards ;)

edit: also I think your pump is sticking out of the socket, mine is completely cupped.

I just threw mine in the tank. This whole time I was under the impression the knob was for intensity and not wave length. I had my mp40 still running, so I left this one running in L mode until I get my second unit in which I will begin testing it with an arduino. I'm definitely going to need to dial these back though, as I presumed I would. When I plugged it in it was in W1 mode and nearly had water going over the edge. I let it run for a second to see what it was going to do, but I didn't have very long. LOL

Mine was a little loud when it would ramp up. I couldn't really tell if it was the motor or the mount. I can't hear it in L, which is 1/3 the power. I'll play with it a little more to see what the sound is like at higher speeds when I get my second one in.

I love my pump; in fact I just bought another one (especially since it was half price)!

Got mine yesterday and all I can say is wow this thing is sweet mine is dead silent I can't heAr it unless I put my ear up against the dry side magnet. It creates the perfect wave for my tank at 19.5v in w1 mode with dial turned half way to full wave length btw I have a 75. My blue jaws have never been happier they love all the exercise they can get with this pump. I forgot to take the light sensor from out of the box and that's at the dump by no but from what I've heard I I wouldn't have wanted it anyway. So far I am extremely hey with this pump.

Terrance,
You are partly right, pointing the pump down a bit makes a difference, but it is still a lot of noise. To much for me.

Btw, The pump is all the way in the holder

I think you mean Fish Street not Fish City. And I have less issue with the store not dealing with the warranty issue than with the manufacturer. Try contacting Jebao directly:
http://www.jebao.com/en/introduce002.html

Just to keep everyone up to date on my customer service with Jebao.
This is what I received from them this morning...

We are sorry for the problem ,
maybe there are some problem for the sensor ,
this is our first time we heard this kind of this problem,
and I've asked our engineer to test it according your description ;
We want to check if replcae a sensor can slove your problem but I still
have not got the answer from my engineer at the moment ;

And we didn't sell the pump directly to Fish-Street.com ,
maybe they buy from our China customer , so can you contact Fish-Street.com
to ask then to send a sensor first as it's not expensive, thanks!

The thing I find interesting is they say that they don't sell directly to Fish-Street.com.

I will contact Fish-Street.com again and see what they say and I'll keep everyone informed as things develop.

Frode,
Your pump from the video is definitely noisier than my WP40 but my Vortech MP40 is probably 2X as loud:lol:

You said your pump is all the way in the holder. Can it freely rotate within the holder without any binding?

I can't believe it took so long to get a knock off. The competition is good for everyone. that being said both tunze and vortech are great companies to deal with. they have awesome customer service and i would def buy from them again. but if i need a cheap back up. i would consider this pump.

What's weird about my orders is that I have two different shipments. One was processed in HK on 3/25 and is the last update for that shipment. I had another processed in HK on 3/26 and was delivered on 3/30. :hmm2: It was two days from SF to me, for the one that was delivered.
