In his defense, he was referring to the Koralia pumps. I used to have 3 of them, 2 of which had stray voltage problems. Interestingly though, the third, which was actually a chinese Sun-Sun ripoff of a koralia never developed this issue. I still use it to this day to mix salt water.

The thead is about the pump, not your reasoning to purchase or not purchase the pump. Since you took it there. My two wp 40s will be arriving in a few days and I as well as others are happy to have found a lower cost solution to the Tunze and Vortech pumps. A little competiton never hurt anyone it usually ends up making ALL the products better and cheaper in the long run. Why are SO many vortech users against this pump? Just because you felt the need to purchase the "HOLY GRAIL" of pumps? for the price that you paid for 1 mp60 I can purchase about 9 of these. For that reason I could care less about customer service. So if it last for only 1yr. im willing to trash it and throw the next one and im positive in the next few years there will be improvements made to this pump,and if It last longer I will consider myself ahead.

I've heard the opposite. If you're not running a GFCI with it, it can make for some dangerous scenarios.

Aquarium safe silicone. I dont know about that if it is true it would be a long time if anything happens.

jtomasi - The magnet that sits behind the suction cup area is not sealed. But after taking the pump apart the propeller looks like a giant Maxi-jet propeller and that is direct contact with the water as well so it is probably not an issue. Not sure it was my pump or not but the rubber part comes off pretty easily and the magnet is visible.

james-lee - After further inspection I think I may not need to seal it.

I bought a MP60 and its worth every penny and then some. I won't buy MP40s because of all of the parts that need replaced. I have a Tunze 6215 wavebox and a 6205 and the 60 out does them both. There Is no way that for 85$ the quality can be there. What about stray voltage in the water? Hydor has pumps priced along these lines and the leak stray voltage into the water like crazy. I will stick with my hundreds of dollars worth pumps over something cheaper that you can never get serviced or speak to someone about operation of one

There hasn't been much innovation in power heads for years. Its about time someone challenged the two main players with something new, at a very reasonable price. Its exciting in what was otherwise a stagnant market.

I always hear about all these marketing costs, but how many tunze or ecotech commercials do you see? I've been reefing for years, yet I wouldn't even know where to even find a marketing piece from either company, nor care.

You will get better warranty service for sure, but when a wet side replacement costs as much as one of these pumps, does it matter? If these pumps die quickly, then yes it will, but if they last....

If these pumps remain solid and don't fail quickly, they will start becoming widespread just like the good Chinese LEDs. The popularity of these pumps and the Chinese LEDs only exist because of the absurd pricing of the other players in the market. They are filling a void which has been there for quite awhile, and it was only a matter of time before someone seized the opportunity.

Agreed. I bought a tunze nano stream for my tank (not controllable) just because all the top reefers had Tunze. It burned up with in 3 months and pretty much killed my SPS at the time. Not that I had a chance getting into sps but that sure did not help. LIke an idiot i threw it in the garbage since i usually dispose of the warrantie receipts so no one see its.,lol I rather spend less and replace these pumps (or use them as back-ups) after 2 years then have 1 vortech last me 10 years. I've purchased chinese product before but I just hope these pumps are reliable when im away

Also, are the prices listed on fish street....US Dollars? The Atlanta Reef Club is buying them at $35 each when the website says $62.50 for 40 to 100 of them....so what's the deal with that?

That price doesn't include shipping, which will add another $20-50 per pump depending on how it is shipped

I have been in contact with Eric and I don't think the shipping will be that high on a group buy of 40 or more but I'll let you know.....someone already posted that when they added 40 to their cart the shipping dropped down to $16 each plus a 3% discount so let's see what they say.
