O-Rings?

O-Rings?

How long are the o-rings supposed to last and would they make a big difference in performance?

I noticed this morning that there is some leakage from the bottom of the collection cup. O-rings still seem flexible enough but maybe I need to replace them anyway.

What do you think?

BTW- What is the volure o-ring?
If I have one then I haven't been able to find it.

i have not had to replace my o-rings since i have owned my skimmer. but i am sure that leaking o-rings would make a difference on the way the skimmer performs, even if it is a small difference.

Hi, a few questions. I just got a G1 skimmer last night to replace my Super Skimmer. Most of these questions would probably be answered by an instruction manual, but all it came with was a packing list and a short instruction to adjust the pipe.

First, is there a way to silence the gurgling sound of the air line? Is it going to clear up on its own or do I have to find some way to fix it? I'm guessing it could be a bit of water in the tube, but I don't know.

Secondly, is there a water level that is too high? My water level is just a little over half of the height of the main tube of the skimmer.

And at last, is it normal for the bubble level to be so high up in the skimmer even when I have the movable pipe moved down pretty far?

Crazed, first of all your skimmer needs to break in so the skimmer will act alittle whacky for awhile until it breaks in. i think it took me about a week to really break my skimmer in.

second, quick solution would be to take a soda bottle, drill a hole in the cap slightly smaller then the tube. insert the tube and drill about 5 -10 smaller holes in the top of the bottle. there are way better ways to make a silencer but this is the cheapest and a way to hold you over till you get the PVC parts to make a real one.

I took a pill bottle and put some foam rubber folded in half in it. Inserted the tube and no noise. Lot of different ways to do this.

good idea, i forgot about the whole pill bottle thing. quick note though... make sure you drill holes in the top of it so the skimmer can still get air.

Get a piece of PVC pipe about 2" long and around 1" wide. buy 2 PVC end caps, drill 1 hole in the first cap just a tad smaller then the venturi tube. the second cap drill about 10 small holes in it. then put all the parts together with some PVC glue or if they fit snug enough you dont have to use the glue. then later down the line if it is not silent enough for you then you can put some cotton balls in it to make it even quiter. this is what i have done in the past and it works very well. i just zip tied it to the neck of the skimmer.

Let's keep it simple. I don't put the top on the pill bottle. The friction of the foam rubber holds the tubing place. go figure??

Question for you ASM G-3 experts.

Mine has been up and running a few months, skimming like mad. Really seems to work well.

Heres my issue, for some odd reason that last couple weeks when i go to empty the cup the lid gets stuck. Not just a little tight stuck, but unable to get it open stuck. Kinda starting to get me agitated to say the least.

Once I do manage to get it open, and its clean its seems to work fine, but once it starts gunking up, nothing. I try to clean it at least every 3-4 days, depending on how much skim I get.

I was just wondering if this is a common problem and how people have fixed it so they dont have to fight to dump there skimmer cup.

I had similar issues with the top lid so i just dont twist the top lid in place. I simply push down to seat it on the cup and leave it.
I have yet to blow the lid off from over skimming

I have not had it stick where it was real hard to get loose. It does get gunked up with bubbles that overflow into the "vent" area. I use an old tooth brush to scrub it while I am cleaning it off.

Any body made any mods to fix the lid issue? i was thinking of adding a handle or something onto it that I could grab on to.

mine is not loud at all but some have complained about the noise before.

i have never had a problem like this before. maybe look into the lid and see if there was a casting flaw so to speak. maybe there is something that could be sanded down to make it work better.

I' wanting to do gate valve mod to my G5 and wondering if pvc size is 1 1/4.
Also when I restart my skimmer one of the motors does not want to restart. I have to pur silicon grease on rubber "garmet" or whatever its called at end of prop rod then it restarts. Is there a fix for this or do you think impellor going bad.

Lid on my G3 is hard too but I found one place that is easier than the rest and marked the lid and cup to make it easier to put on and get off each time.
