ASM Skimmer Club!

Could someone help me out and send me a link to a place where I can purchase replacement parts. I was taking the pumps off to clean them and totally pulled the plumbing out of the chamber. I have a G-5 with 2 Sedra 9000s, so just want to know if there is a place that sells a replacement for the body. I really like this pump alot but it is delicate.

What would this G3 skimmer be worth?

Has a sedra 5000 as pump modded with recirculation mod.

Gate valve mod with 1.25 inch gate valve.

1" uniseal for feed pump.

Collection Cup elbow fitted for cup drain.

Extra collection cup.

Spare 3500 Sedra pump (could use as feed pump).

goochesfish,

thanks for the link now I know where to purchase some parts from, BUT it looks like I may have to purchase a new one. :furious: My problem is where the pump connects to the skimmer body. The entire plumbing attachment came apart.

If you are using it in a sump, try using uniseals. I used them when I did a recycle mod. Only a few dollars.

Safedad,

I checked out the uniseals online, but I am just wondering how this would help me? I actually pulled part of the plastic out of the unit, so it isn't a clean break. Very nice product though. Let me know if I am missing something here.

Sorry, Didn't realize it broke. Thought it just came loose. If you could patch the hole and redrill it, then you could use the uniseals. I don't know what kind of tools you have but a local reefer with a drill press might be able to help.

Just got a used G1 with a Sedra 3500 pump with needle wheel. I have read a lot of this thread, and maybe I missed it, but has anybody tried any mods to the pump? I fired it up in an extra tank and started with 6" water and moved on up incrementally to 9". Hooked up to my dwyer meter there was no difference. Then I drilled out the venturi air line, again no difference. Then I took out the volute and dremeled the transition for the pump output and smoothed it out with some wet/dry sandpaper. That one little mod took my airflow from around 7 to about 14 scfh. I'm afraid if I try mesh it will be too much air for the neck. Does anyone know how much air a 2 1/2" neck can handle?

Could you describe this modification in more detail or even post some photos? I have a G2 with a stock Sedra 3500. It's been a great skimmer for my 90 gallon, but if I can make it better, I'm game.

i have a g3 with the gate valve mod but want to do the recirc mod. can someone tell me how to do it or give me a link for it and where to find the uniseals. i can't find them anywhere locally. also has anyone that has had a faulty sedra. i've had mine for 2 years and there is a short in it and i know it has to be the pump bc as soon as i unplug it i don't get shocked when i stick my hand in the water.

GeoB,

Here is a picture of the broken skimmer....

Get a small piece of 1/8" thick acrylic or pvc sheet and heat it up in the oven til its flexible. Lay it on the side of your skimmer and form it to the curve of your cylinder and let it cool. Use a little weldon pvc703 or something similiar and then just drill a new hole and uniseal it. Much cheaper than a new skimmer.

goochesfish - I was trying to take the Sedra 9000 out to clean it and I pulled a little to hard.

fishoutawater - I may have to try that, the wife isn't to happy about me spending hundreds of dollars at this time. I told her I would try anything cost effective to fix it first, and of course she said that is best for now.

Just spoke with someone at All Seas and they said for me to ship the body back to them and they can fix it by converting it to the newer version. What do you know, didn't know there was a newer version. He mentioned something about a rubber gasket that the elbow connects to!!!! Do you guys have or know about this, I know that mine is a few years old. I hopefully will have this shipped back to them tomorrow.

Hi guys,

I am trying to figure out my ASM G4. At least I think it's a G4. It came with a Sedra 9000 which is now toast as the impeller swelled. There is no bulkhead on the skimmer wall - just a hole. I know that the guy I bought the system from was skimming, so I am not sure what happened.

I am pretty frustrated with this, as my soon-to-be-exhusband was the parts and plumbing guy. Since he's gone, I feel really lost. As ASM didn't make any manuals that I can find, I am even more lost.

To complicate matters, there isn't enough clearance to remove the skimmer from the sump, so all plumbing will have to be done in situ. This also eliminates the just-buy-a-new-skimmer option.

I don't even know where to start... I guess a new pump (although reading this thread makes me even more confused - sedra, not sedra, I just don't know. I can't even tell exactly what model this is! )

Help!
Danielle
