Does anyone know where to get ASM skimmer bodies without any pump? I already have my own pump and getting a skimmer with a pump wouldn't do me any good and just cost me a bunch more.

I think I will try Champion Lighting and Supply.

I think the only difference is in the collection cup. You could get away with the sedra 5000 or 9000 model for the G4 or G4+

i run a G4xx on a sedra 9000 for my 200 gal system.

Thought that the G4 bodies were all the same and the various designations just reflect the different pump sizes? G4 sedra 5000, G4+ sedra 9000, G4xx sedra 15000, and so on ....

My G4xx is 30in tall. Not sure of the specs for G4 and G4+, you might be right about the pumps being the difference though.

Well I bit the bullet and bought a skimmer with pump. Now I have a heavily modded G3 for sale.

AFAIK, there is no manual. My new G1x didn't come with one.

Ah bummer... I am starting to design my new tank, and not sure how deep should the sump section needs to be

I keep my G3 about 9 inches. Maybe someone will see this that has a 5.

Have a g4xx which I think is the same height as g5 (30"). I keep mine in 11" of water. Hope this helps

If you guys running g4 and larger skimmers want to make a real beast, instead of a recirc pump just add another sedra 5000 and port the volutes. The body is big enough to handle the extra water, and the neck is good till about 45 scfh. You shouldn't get any micros exiting the skimmer either. You may have to cut the exit pipe down to lower the water level down to the bottom of the cone transition. It's hard to beat an ASM with multiple pumps. I've done this on g4,5 and 6 skimmers.

Personally my favorite mod is the gravity feed. Every drop of water that leaves the DT has to go through the skimmer first THEN to the other filters, reactors, fuge in the sump. The overflow is plumbed directly into the skimmer's reaction chamber.
