automatic water change

My code is working! After getting the kinks out of my timing functions I have my Reef Angel successfully mixing up a batch of salt :) now all I have to do once this system is running is add a few cups of salt and hit a button and I get perfect 35ppt water :)

Now that I have the timing functions all working properly now, i just need to add the trigger for timed testing and a little bit of temporary plumbing to do my calibrations. Yes, zachts lamp timer would have been much easier, but I'm getting there.

I was wondering if anyone knows who has the lowest prices on Stenner dual head pumps, The cheapest one that I have found was on uswatersystems dot com for $298.

Lockewell.com also sells them for $284, free shipping- they are in Orlando

Just a FYI for anyone that needs lots of quick connect fittings.

They are a lot cheaper on eBay and Amazon. I've bought them as low as $1.60 to $2/ea.

Looking forward to getting my setup running.

What are you waiting for?

BTW- havent seen any recent pics of the big bad boy!!!

I'm waiting on my fittings. Lol
A while back I lost all my corals and motivation. When it's presentable I'll revive the build.

1. If you got the Stenner you need no fittings. :debi:

2. All your corals died? you are obviously getting advise from the wrong places/people. you need to come to the next FMAS meeting, LMAO.

Following this thread closely, I am going to be setting up a awc system in the next few days with a dual head pump I got off eBay. I should be getting it tomorrow, have to see how loud it will get.

I just ordered the Stenner 170DMP5 Double Head Fixed Output Low Pressure Pump and I used coupon code twitter5 and got 5% off and free shipping it came out to $283.05 from uswatersystems.com. I figure every 14 minutes I can make a gallon water change I can set my Apex to turn on a few times a day and my water should be perfect. I will not be using it for a salt water tank. I am going to use it for a freshwater planted Discus tank. The water will be coming from a RO/DI tank to my sump and the water coming out will be pre-filtered tank water coming from a wet/dry.

I figure the pump replaces 170 gal per day which is ruffly 1 gal every 14 minutes. I think my math is correct. I can run the pump for 35 minutes 4 times a day and change out approx. 10 gallons every day. That is 70 gallons a week. My system is approx 230 gallons total vol. I think the water quality of my tank will be pristine.

More like 1 gallon every 17 minutes, but close enough. Im glad you understood that the total gallons per day is for the whole pump, so a 170gpd does 85g per head per day.

Im sure it will work well for you.

Im loving it. 2.5 per day on my tank with out a single hitch. Got a love it. Over 5 months now

Posted this on my build thread:

I got one of the eBay pumps for $50 to test out for my AWC project. So far it's working well. A little loud for me but I can schedule it to happen when no one is really home, or sometime in the evening.

It did move the same amount of water in my testing:

I would like to change about 1.7 gallons a day, I measured the pump to about 7oz a minute, it may do 8oz a minute after I change the tubing and re-lube. For me to change 1.7 gallons a day, I need a 30-31 minute run time.

OK. I'm just really interested in seeing your results.

Why wait, I already tried to educate people on this at the beginning of this thread and all we heard was how the jet engine was so much cheaper and excuse after excuse how the LiterMeter III was not the option ......LMAO now that I have had the opportunity to sit back and enjoy this thread with everyone trying everything from an old printer cartridge, to old drills, to an old car battery and a good year tire to a blender or was that a blender I used to make my drink to go with my popcorn while watching this thread.....all just to save a few dollars LOLOLOLO......No need to wait on Eddie I can tell you hands down after using a Masterflex for years (which is way more precise than the jet engine) and opting for the LiterMeter III.....and by the way that Masterflex was the same one I sold to Marvin who then gave it to Dave to play with when he thought about setting AWC up, ......I opted for the LiterMeteter III for a reason ....Look for you guys that are not here local and haven't seen my entire system when I tell you I'm constantly switching things out, testing out this model or that way to do things trust me I do (Eddie and Dave can vouch for that)......every piece of equipment I own is switched and tweaked till I end up with what I feel is the best of the best from (Reef Octopus Skimmers tried it) switched to a Bubble King Supermarine 300 skimmer, (750w DIY multichip LEDS tried it) switched to Echotech Radions, (Tunze wave pumps and Sea Swirls tried them) switched to MP60s, (Iwaki return pumps tried them) Switched to Reeflow Super Gold Darts, (Digital Aquatics Controller tried it) switched to a full Apex, to building out my own 300gal sump.....In all my tinkering usually if something else cost a few dollars more IMO there is a reason, I'm not saying just because something is high priced its got to be the best out there but the old rule of thumb in this hobby almost always comes into play ...you get what you pay for .....if anyone wants to ask any questions and not wait till next month please feel free.....or better yet just come over
