automatic water change

How loud is the Stenner pump? I hope I don't regret ordering one.

I wouldn't be putting it in your front room or a room you sit and watch tv in or try and read a book.....need a closet or remote place but that's just my opinion...don't get me wrong its a great option as you can see from others on here .....I just prefer something different and imo a better option for doing awc after trying multiple options .....also after all Eddies excuses as to why it wasn't I think its funny now he's gone far enough to call and try out another option besides his beloved private jet....

Yeah. The Stenners are loud I would definitely put it some where isolated.
Mine is going in the garage behind the back of my tank.

like others said very, very loud!!! i put mine outside. 1 week in and the Stenner has worked perfectly. i too considered the Litermeter III but it was unclear whether it could move the amount of water i wanted.

Why wait, I already tried to educate people on this at the beginning of this thread and all we heard was how the jet engine was so much cheaper and excuse after excuse how the LiterMeter III was not the option ......LMAO now that I have had the opportunity to sit back and enjoy this thread with everyone trying everything from an old printer cartridge, to old drills, to an old car battery and a good year tire to a blender or was that a blender I used to make my drink to go with my popcorn while watching this thread.....all just to save a few dollars LOLOLOLO......

Matt- those above comments are hilarious, you should do stand up.

It has been well documented and debated back and forth with you that you like the LM3. And i have mentioned that it is indeed a good option. Hence my rationale for taking up Spectrapures generosity to let me try it and then it will be donated to our club. I will write up a non biased piece when it comes in, and i will post my findings on all 3 threads happening at the moment throughout social media.

But at the end of the day IMHO the best thing we can do is provide objective data and let the folks decide on their own.

Not everyone has that monetary ability to change things out every few months like I know you have done. Folks have budgets, and if all they can spend is $50 on an ebay pump, then thats all they have. At no point have you seen me or Dr. Thompson condone using those pumps, but if it works for them GREAT.

The ultimate goal is to get people thinking about dropping the buckets, and if possible go one step further and do AWC. :spin3:

Happy Easter to you and your family bud. :)

Matt and Eddie,

Althought I haven't set my MasterFlex yet, I know it's the best option for me and my budget. As Eddie said this thread is about educating and options that everyone can see and make q decision that's best for them.

Masterflex isn't a cheep option its actually one of the best dual headed pumps on the market and is by no means CHEEP for sure....very high quality, medical grade

Agreed, but finding it used on E-Bay helped the budget

I said it here or the other thread, but I've spent about $100 on my setup.

you wont be disappointed imo if your going to go with a dual headed setup the masterflex is the finest on the market I just wanted to be able to do other things with the funds I was spending like ATO, top off of RODI, remote pump controlling all with digital led display ....so thats why I ended up opting for the setup I have, I just wanted more than AWC with the funds being spent....

Understood.
That's what's good about this thread, it let's everyone know of the different options and the pros and cons of each.

Wow, I missed a bunch over the weekend!

I just want to add, for the DIY inclined (myself I think I enjoy building systems for my tank as much as I do growing coral and watching my fish), by going the DIY route with an Ebay special Cole-Parmer multi-head pump and a DC motor I was able to save enough money to fund building an entire Salt Water Mixing and Water Change Station for the cost of a Stenner and well below the cost of a Litermeter system!

So, for me the challenge and enjoyment of building the whole system, not to mention getting way more for my money by DIYing it, was the absolute best option for me. (and I've looked at probably all the options including systems not having anything to do with peristaltic pumps, of which there are probably as many or more configurations out there). This particular approach also allowed me to implement the system NOW and not have to wait on a new system build to accommodate it!!!!!!

I would also like to note, as has been mentioned several times, using a DC motor allows for simple speed (and therefore noise) control as well.

There are many, ways to get to the end result of Auto Water Change, and I love how this thread has evolved and been through so many options along the same lines as the original posts!

yea, I just came back to this, and I've only seen 1 person out of everybody on here with an AC motor, everybody else has been DC. I've put up links for simple $5-$7 pwm DC motor controllers that make these things whisper quiet. i can't hear mine over my computer fans 3 feet away, and it's mounted right on the side of my stand

I am officially part of the AWC club now :) I am using a dual head masterflex. It's on my patio.

My challenge now is figuring out how to control it with my apex. Any suggestions? I don't have to big a single dc4 just for this unit. Was thinking of using a relay or running a long power wire (about 8'). Although I don't know how well that would work either.

Marvin- I think Dr. T used some kind of long USB cable, ask him.

marvin and I have been corresponding. I'm helping him setup a methanol denitrator :)

I use a 50 USB extension cable to run an EB4 in my garage. The EB4 runs my 2 stenner pumps and 2 mixing pumps.

Good info on the USB for us APEX numbskulls.
