BEAUTIFUL Japanese BB SPS tanks. WOW

Just to let you guys know.. if you read into these tanks.. they are trying to mimic the reef. Yes they are using red lights because some of those corals were caught from shallow reefs. Makes sense? Something no one has caught on over here (zero availability).

This doesnt make mcuh sense to me as it has been pointed out already, there is a lack of biodiversity that exists in any reef. Not to mention if they are getting corals to grow from the underneath, not a lot of reefs Ive seen acomplish this feat.

Sorry! Only if it starts getting slow, then I go searching for some.

Would I be rude in asking everyone very nicely to SHUT UP so we can see more pics???:D

Sorry if I was rude.

I see one, maybe two pumps in this tank... what's with that???

I'm sorry for having to say this but some of those tanks are just too sterile. Everything is concetrated on the coral and it's color. I prefer a natural looking reef environment.

Agreed, I still like to see them. Notice the Butterfly enjoying a SPS snack?

I think the sterile looking tank is what they are tying to achieve?
They must be doing something right look at the sps in those systems it day glow in color and thriving?

jdm man.... i like looking at a clean tank, but again those are just pics, im sure if u go to see it, u'll see detrius floating here and there, or whatever.. pics are pics...

i won't mind achieving something like that, but japanese tanks correlate to how japanese people are. it's just how their style is tended to be. if u look at how a japanese packs something versus that of an american, you can see the difference..

all based on personal preference. i also agree that the clean and neat look is a cultural thing. japanese folks take alot pride in cleaniness in almost everything. look how the japanese maintain bonsai trees as an example.

word...

each culture gives out its distinct style, whether it be in food, cars, reef, i believe we can all learn a thing or two if not appreciate how thigns can be done differently.. a matter of philosophy..

i think one day i may try for a tank like that, maybe just a small tank...

Too sterile? Here's a natural reef environment for you:

Scroll through Dustin's awesome pics on that slide show. There is nothing in those pics that would not be found in those tanks. Clean rocks with little coverage by anything but Halimeda, turfs and corals. All that warm, fuzzy natural reef ecosystem biodiversity garbage cracks me up.

Those are defenetly beautifull BB tanks. IMO, I NEVER saw a BB tank that looked this good(not even close) here in the USA. Time for you BB folks to spend some time on the Japanese Reef Forums! :D :D :D

Isn't that the purpose of a BB tank?

not necessarily. a lot of people just dont use sand because of high flow, they dont want to deal with sand storms.

BB is kind of a trend, just like DSB's were hot for a while, now a lot of people don't like them.

everyone has their preferences.

True, it's all preferences... BUT.... most people uses BB tanks to facilitate nutrient export(per "them") so detritus, in theory, wouldn't acumulate on the sand bed(per them). I have done both ways and prefer sand. And to me, most BB tanks, pretty or not, looks sterile.

Where do they get 1800 watt halides?? I don't claim to read Japanese but one of those tanks said "2600w" and something about 1800x900x900. I assume the w is watts.

I love the pics and the colors of the corals,I have always heard about the Japanese tanks and saw a couple of pics about how clean the entire setups are. They must do quite a bit of maintenance to keep it impeccable like that.
