Bryopsis possible solution

Thanks for this thread, after ten years of fighting bryopsis in my 2000 liter system, I am extremely excited to see if finally I could get rid of this curse.

I went to a local wholesale medical and agricultural supplier, and he gave me a bottle that says on it enilconazole 15%, when I told him that what I need is fluconazole he told me that it is the same exact thing, but this is for agricultural use and it would work the same in my tank, I am not relying on this at all, and would not experiment on my tank without confirming 100% that this is true.
So if anyone has any knowledge on this, I would highly appreciate your input.

i'd say safer bet is using the link supplied here many have used it. its cheap and free shipping no real reason not to, and its US based, so it comes in 2-3 days.

Thanks Shannon, the issue is that I am not in the US, I'm in Israel, getting meds shipped in and thru customs wont be easy at all.

You should check for pharmacy over the counter generics. The one I used was called Forcan and there are others.

IMO I would not mix medications. Too much of a gamble. Give some time between each treatment.
Yep. Spot on. That way you can pinpoint what works and doesn't, and eliminate suspects based on that. You can chemically remove anything but the real test is what caused it in the first place. And with Briopsis as I have learned in this post can happen to anyone. Even great husbandry isn't immune. But Cyno and others are generally nutients or newness, lighting and flow. Best of luck. Be aware that when you use Chemiclean you will need to either turn off your skimmer (think the packaging reccommends) or turn it WAY down as it will foam like you've never seen for the first few hours/day.

I know users mentioned all forms of algae was removed by this. Im more curious about bubble algae. Does anyone have a case with bubble algae also dissapearing? Or if anyone can confirm structure of bubble algae is similar to Byropsis and would show similar results?

That would be phenominal.

Bryopsis possible solution

I've also treated my tank with "Fluconazole", I'm currently on day 8 of the treatment days and almost 95% of the bryopsis has been removed. In the areas that still exist most of the bryopsis has turned a whitish colour and appears to be dying. I also have been adding "Vibrant" to my tank to try to control the bubble algae, I have started to notice some of the bubble algae breaking away from the rocks and caught in my filter. I was told that before I started using fluconazole that this medication would not get rid of the bubble algae in the tank but some people have had success using vibrant. I'm waiting until day 15 to do a water change and add charcoal back into the system.

Well I've been dosing Vibrant twice a week for about a month now and I have not noticed any change. actually, the GHA is starting to come back on the rocks that I brushed. The Byropsis is unaffected and now starting to grow in other spots.

My water readings are not out of line, but I cant get the algae to stop growing. Been running GFO and carbon, also doing 10gal WC's every week to try to help out.

My water parameters are
Sal- 1.024
Ammonia- 0ppm
Nitrites- 0ppm
Nitrates- 10ppm
Phosphate- 0ppm
Cal-425ppm
Mag- 1425ppm
dKH- 8.3

I have a RSM250 and that calls for 12.5 tablets @ 150mg. The Flucon I found is only 100mg tablets. Can I get by with 12 tablets?

I'm not sure anybody knows what the minimum effective dose is.

1200mg into ~60 gallons sounds pretty reasonable to me (I put 3000mg into my 120 gallon and that did the trick).

If you have Bryopsis you'll know within a week if it is working or not, and if it isn't working just add more.

It certainly wouldn't hurt to have some extra pills lying around, for example I dosed some Flucon into my water changes to keep the levels up, but I have no idea if that was necessary or not. Even if I wanted to run some further tests on minimum effective dosing I can't because the Flucon killed all my Derbesia. That is why this thread is so helpful as people try it out and post their results.

Thanks for the reply. So do you just mix up some saltwater and dissolve the tablets in that water? Then do a water change?

I would dissolve the pills in RO water, then after doing a WC would dump the dissolved pills into a filter sock in my sump. I used the filter sock because the pills were taking a long time to dissolve and I wanted to make sure no segments of pills got into the main tank.

Then I started getting lazy and just dropped the pills directly into the filter sock and let them dissolve on their own in the tank.

It wasn't really scientific. Since I dosed 30 pills for my entire tank, if I changed 10% of the water I'd throw another 3 pills in. I actually did change a large percentage of the water (probably 40% over 2 weeks) because I was really trying to get the Mag down to reasonable levels again and get rid of any nutrients released from all the Derbesia dying.

Now that the Derbesia is all essentially dead (day 25 or so after initial dosing), I'm doing WCs but not putting any pills in. We'll see what happens.

I'm about to give it a go , been battling byropsis for about 1.5 years. was just figuring out how to start all over again when I read about this treatment . Wish me luck ;)

Six days in mine is thinning but it is still pretty dense in some spots, I think mine is hopeless. I hope by day 15 I will have the same success as everyone else. My total tank volume is 60 gallon DT and about a 15 gallon sump. It has been at least three years of growth or more. Maybe because it is really dense it is taking a bit longer. I put a total of 1400 mg.

Well, mine isn't bryopsis and while I was told it was a cladophoropsys that can also be a variety of GHA.

9 days in at 4500mg in a water volume of about 225g and I see no change at all. :(

Some. Oddly, most on surfaces of powerheads (tunze, gyre), overflow box, and the like. It'll get there though.

My order will be here today, which is just in time for my next WC.

So to make sure I do this right from what I gathered, you just run your tank as normal. Skimmer, pumps, lights etc.. Do I continue to do my WC's as normal also? Anything else I need to know?
