Bubble blaster vs Askoll pumps?

I'm also interested to see the results of the 250 clone. I'm going to make essentially the same thing and I'm considering a BB 5000.

How can someone even compare Askoll/Laguna pump with Bubble Blaster. They are not in the same range, not even close, and never will be.
If you take these two pumps, and put them together one beside other, you can see which of them has better made parts, more expensive and stronger plastic, enclosure... And if you can see that from outer side of pump, then you do not have to cut it in half or be engineer to realize which of them has better internal parts, motor, eletronics...
From what I know, BB is produced after its owner could not get Askoll/Laguna motors for his new skimmers, so he was compelled to produce/obtain a new pump. And what is Bubble Blaster now? Perfect new pump from China which is better than the best skimmer pump in the world? ..
I do not think so..

Well, said, but if you will go back and read this thread, no one is saying the bubble blaster in BETTER than the worlds best pump, nor better than the ASKOLL. The bubble blaster pumps just came out and it would be foolish for anyone to make a claim sooo unjustifiable. I'm sure it will be quite a while before people will see how they truly compare to the ASKOLLs, which I personally think the bb's will come up a lil short compared to the askolls, but I like the price of the bb's and I like how they have multiple models. (mine is working great) I have never used an Askoll, but I would love to, maybe on my next skimma!

Keep posting on both Askolls and the BBs, I would love to see more pics and vids of both pumps.

Some say that is equal and some say that is better(that also depends what 'better' means to somebody, less heat, noise, more air power..). And name of the thread is BBlaster vs Askoll, so i wrote who is winner for me. But none of these pump companies do not pay me, so i can freely say that every competition and every new pump is good, and as more models came out, the end user will always have the most benefit from it.

so i take it you have used the bb and can compare it to your askoll?

What you asked me now is a standard marketnig trick. How you can say that is not good, first buy from me,(then say whatever you whish, i got your money and i do not care; )

no no, i just wanted to honestly see if you have actual experience comparing the two. i dont think there is a thing wrong with either pump, so far they both perform. the only thing that everyone is waiting for is to see the durability of the bb pump. the only think that will prove that is time, so i guess time will tell. but to have such strong words towards a pump you have no experience makes your statements kinda irrelevant. the bb skimmers were actually designed for the super reef octopus skimmer line. saying that they were designed because he could not get the laguna motor block.... you are familiar with the hurricone line right. ;) i cant say anything about the askoll because i have no experience with them, but my bb5000 is not leaving me disappointed yet. i am planning on a mod for my skimmer so i can use the bb5000 to its full potential.

Mod?

Mod?

What type of Mod you gonna do?

i only kinda agree. i dont want to have my skimmer down all the time replacing the pump, even if they do replace it everytime.

You lost me some where between "marketing trick" and "I don't care". You don't have my money, to whom are you referring?
:fun5::hmm2::worried2:

i just have to drill out a bigger hole for a bigger pipe. i have the octopus extreme 250 with the cone transition, basically the same body as the super reef 5000. the issue i am having is that the holes that were designed for the sicces are too small for the bb5000. the more water a pump can move the more air it can suck. since it is restricting the pump i am going to make the hole from about 3/4 to 1 5/8 with an inside diameter of about 1 1/4". it should perform about as good as the SRO 5000. right now i am getting about 65scfh, after the mod i plan to get closer to 90-95.

Like i said, use whatever you liked more, i really do not care what people will choose.. And no, im not BB user, but i saw it in real and have it in my hand..i also saw it in work and hear from others.. from that, i saw enough for me and to stand behind my claims about it. What else is needed? Give money for it and test it for months/years? Or open/destroy it to get inner pars for showing them to guys on forum, also open one askoll too. For me, if he look/hear/seems like lower quality pump, then probably he is lower quality pump. Or, maybe pump looks inferior only from outside?? Chinese whant to save money only on outer parts/plastic, and put great parts in. Or they found a way how to make better pump with cheaper parts than rest of the world. Maybe they have a lot better engineers than other countries..

will do, i am a little nervous though. most people use uniseal and 1" pipe, but i wanted to use some pipe that is designed for the union it comes with. since there is no uniseal for a 1 5/8" pipe, i have to basically try and drill it exactly the same size as the pipe and use weldon. i am going to see if a friend can drill it for me, he has a cnc machine.

you are entitled to your opinion. i just think that there is a whole lot of assumptions behind it, and that is my opinion.

+1 for innovation and competition. They making the world a better place and greatly improve the quality of products. The free market always wins. I enjoy talking with people from other parts of the world b/c we get a chance to see how similar we are, even though we are thousands of miles away. HAPPY REEFING.

people dont understand,......the bubble blaster pump is CHEAPER!!!!! ALOT CHEAPER....and by the looks of it they are competing with these high dollar pumps(askol,etc...) and from a marketing point they have the lead over these high dollar pumps just from being so much cheaper and performing as well if not better, and by them offering a 3 year warranty it sure does look good in my eyes.

I strongly agree with tangtang clown, if we didnt have the companies like bubble blaster etc. there wouldnt be competition to drive down the cost for the consumer and then the other companies could charge whatever they wanted for products. I will soon be buying a bb 5000 for my diy cone skimmer

its not that they are using cheaper parts, its just manufacturing costs for labor are drastically reduced there. Most of there manufacturing technic's are robbed from the u.s, germany etc so more than likely they are manufactured the same there as they are here.
