Not that i dont reccomend it, I just think its more efficiant running it wet.
Just my opinion.

I would agree with that. don't you pull out more nutrients, too?
What's the advantage of skimming dry? pulling out the "harder to get" nutrients?

Yes and yes, From what i have read thats what i believe, I cannot give reff's with that so tifwiw.

dang creetin, what are you throwin my way? what is tifwiw?

in a way, for me to pull out less nutrients (by running dry) might be a good thing since this skimmer is way oversized for my tank. I don't want it to stop skimming, right?

Take it for what its worth. = tifwiw. LOL
Just my opinion, It looks like its skimming really well for you too.
My BM ran well dry too, But slowed down at the 2-3 day mark where it would not running it like yinger there. Po4 was lower when i ran it wet than dry but it could have been a couple of things combined. My orp was higher running it wet as well.
When i run my skimmers wet i think of it being extra water i change out. Just keep an eye on salinity. My beckett i would run so wet i would probably change out 5-10 gallons a week of green tea skimmate.

ah, tifwiw. It tooke me a few seconds to figure out reff's. :D

my BK does slow down as the week progresses. I thought it was due to a dirty neck. My PO4's are at 0.03 (hanna), so I'll keep mine running dry for now. If my trates start creeping up or I get another cyano outbreak, I'll run it wet.

Everybody has thier own preff on skimmate production. I have read where people just think its just taking un necc extra water out skimming wet. I am running mine drier to see if things change.
Po4 on hanna is 0.01 even running this dry so no negative changes so far, But skimmate production is still good, where my old bm 250 would need to be cleaned at this point to remain doing so. (3 days) I dont feed like you though my fish get fed 2 times a day with flake foods, and 2 times a week mysis and nori.

do you have a build thread, Creetin? Would love to see pics. I'm force feeding my fish to get my coral to color up. LOL. I just started dosing Salifert AA 2 weeks ago as well. I've got a lot of nutrients in my tank

No and i am terrable with pics. :(
Heres a vid of my tank feel free to look at the album i have there.

i am currently using the octopus dnw 200 skimmer for my 70 gal sps tank (heavily stocked) with a 50 gal sump and 25 gal refugium. while it seems to be producing a good amount of thick, gross skimmate i am concerned i'll need a more productive skimmer once the corals in my tank really start to grow. i only moved to the 70 from a 29 a month ago, but after reading these forums i am re-thinking much of my system ( skimmer, lighting and pumps). what bubble king skimmer that is external ( i don't have room in my sump) would best suit my system? thanks

looks like my red dragon is fine, it appears to have been one of my reactor pumps (mini ehiem) that was causing the probe problems.

The only thing I can think of is I disturbed the ehiem when I unplugged the RD causeing the problem to go away at the same time.
