Cheektowaga reef store robbed?

I second that Adam, I also recognize them from Markheim, especially the one with the sideburns that are hidden by his hoodie. They never came in much but I do remember them, as there were not many younger saltwater people that came in that I didn't recognize or dealt with on a weekly basis that also wore skater apparel...that also came in together.. For the life of me I cannot remember a name at all, but they were hobbyist saavy and knew their designer corals.

Honestly there is enough evidence to uncover them, they didn't even wear masks or gloves. I am terribly sorry this happened to you, Randy. Who steals from a shop that they obviously enjoyed? I will be posting that video up on my Facebook right now, hopefully it helps. With the close group niche of saltwater hobbyists in the Buffalo/Rochester/Syracuse areas I can say without much hesitation our collective knowledge of people in the hobby and our will to right a wrong will bring these guys to justice (that and, well, intervention from those great uniformed men with badges and guns). These guys can and will be caught. They are most likely local, and anyone who works at ARC must have had a conversation with them at some point. Sometimes the scummiest people you deal with in retail are the ones that are the most friendly. Good luck Randy, and the Cheektowaga Police Department. I hope they help you find these bastards.
 
Just searched on-line for news on this, unfortunately nothing. Hope the police are checking out Markheim Tropical Fish & Pets, sounds like at least 2 folks might have seen them there.
 
This sucks majorly. I HOPE Randy gets a chance to pillage their tanks after they get caught. They should also work off any losses of specimen life too. It's just as bad a puppy farming in my eyes.
 
As annoyed as I am this happened, I don't know why anyone thinks they will be caught. They got their faces on camera and finger prints, great! But what if they have no criminal record? What if their fingerprints/faces are not in the system? Then what do you go by? The product they stole, well the livestock anyway, is untrackable. It's not like corals and fish have id/serial numbers. Plus, these guys could live quite far away. Though I would bet money they are local.

I'm sorry, but I just don't believe these idiots will be caught. It's frustrating, but more than likely true. I hope the store recovers and is truly more secure in the future. It's a damn shame.

They should get caught, your right no number or way to track them. They will sell them at some point (the reason they stole them;money) and that is when they will be busted! It wont be for a few months when they think the heat has died down. I hope the corals live that long!

Or they will get busted doing something else just as stupid and then they will tie the two together when they photo and fingerprint them. These two are too stupid not to get caught at some point! Or too stupid not to do something else to get them busted!
 
Security is an odd thing. As I was taught in military intelligence training a long time ago,most locks and security measures keep honest people honest. If someone really want's to they can usually overcome even the best of precautions.
 
I shivered the first time I saw a bump key video TMZ.

I too thought that capturing their faces on the security cameras would have been enough to figure out who they were.

I thought having the cameras in place was good, they also had 2 doors. I'm not saying it was an open door. I'm also no judge of how secure is "secure enough". I probably wouldn't even have had as much security as Randy to begin with. I just hope it is MORE secure going forward, that's all. I think it's a damn shame they didn't have a camera outside on the building somewhere that might have caught their license plate number, would probably have made this an easy case.

Tell me how they are going to be caught during the sale of their product? I am not saying these 2 are geniuses, but honestly, who is going to be able to identify ARC corals? It's not like they have unique markings or anything to give them away....

I want them to be caught, very badly....I just don't see how it's going to happen. :sad2:

Does anyone know the status of the gorgeous tank inside the doorway? I seriously hope that wasn't damaged. Loved it.

And yeah, corals are easily identified by their color, form, markings etc by the trained eye.

I hope the thieves are caught, and the corals are returned. Some corals can't be replaced and it would be a shame if they were lost because a few scum-bags thought they were funny.
 
"Really...?" what Dan? I don't think I said anything blasphemous. If you claim that they are easily identified, fine. I personally don't believe anyone is going to be able to "bust" these kids by simply seeing the corals in person. I'd hate to be the guy wrongly accused because you "might" have seen some of the corals before.

As I recall having visited that store, he had a lot of corals in there and $20K of them were stolen, were they all photographed in case this happened?

I like how I am in support of ARC coming out on top from this, while being realistic, but yet getting ridiculed for my statements.

Nevermind....I guess I am way off base.
 
I understand what you're saying Flood. Plus, how are you going to identify a frag of one of the corals?
 
The corals will lead the police to the thieves' faces/fingerprints if frags ever pop up for sale. They don't need to be ID'd with 100% accuracy.

There is no reason to be worried about being wrongly accused if you're not on that videotape. :)
 
I wonder if the police have looked into checking the cameras of the two gas stations. Bc there's one either way u go on genesse. I mean they had to go that way to leave they should be able to check there cameras bc I know they have to look at the rd and see. I mean the guys came back sk they should be able to put two and two toghter and match the times up and or that hole airport strip some of those building have to have cameras. And at the times they did this we know there where like no cars on the road

I was in the store last weekend and that tank looked gorgeous. It was my first time at the place so I can't say one way or another if it was the "same" or not, but it definitely looked great. As did just about every other tank in the store. They really have a lot of nice stuff there.
