Copperband Butterfly Primer

Mine also was not eating anything, it started to pick at the rocks but nothing i gave the other fish. Then i went to the LFS and they suggested living black worms. He instantly was interested.

It took about a week of the black worms, then i mixed it with frozen blood worms and he started eating both, then i stopped giving the live black worms and now he eats anything i give him.

Also try a half open clam, they love getting there snout into crevices. BLACK WORMS made all the difference though!

have two CBB at my LFS in his QT, will bring home to my QT soon, what size holes have you guys been drilling in the PVC endcaps? I was thinking 1/8"

I pulled the trigger on a 3.5 to 5.5" CBB at Blue Zoo today to go along with my Whitetail Bristletooth Tang order. I asked if he was eating and this is their response. Fingers crossed!

Thanks for the question. All of our animals listed as being available in inventory have already passed at least a 2 week conditioning period and are all eating just fine. We feed our own Blue Zoo Mix dry food and enriched live brine shrimp. We do not feed frozen food because of the expense that would incur.

Quick note. Finally found a CBB that was eating Mysis at store, and the timing fit since I had space and no aggressive species. It eats Mysis, but I have to turn the powerheads off. But on day 3 I noticed my 1 yr old Bangaii Cardinalfish hiding in the rocks. Figured it was scared with the new addition, then when it came out noticed it was swimming erratically and had a shredded tailfin.

Concluding that the CBB was the only change in the tank, and perhaps it didnt like the Banagaii bc of its stripes?

Not necessarily the CBB. Each new fish addition has the potential to change the hierarchy in the tank which will have a cascading affect

Well, I didn't add what is currently in stock sorry. Sometimes when you post from your phone you get lazy to include all the details for a simple comment. Each of the fish below lived with the Bangaii for the past year with no issues:

Yellow Watchman Goby
Purple Firefish
Green Chromis
Crescent Tail Fairy Wrasse

Whats the odds of two living together in a 260-280ish 7 foot tank? Going to be pulling the trigger on a custom tank and will combine the two currently running tanks. One is larger than the other. Probably around 5" vs 4".

They form monogamous pairs. A pair will get along even in a much smaller tank, but they need to be male and female. Two males will fight until there is only one.
The easiest way to test if you have a male and a female is to set the larger one to the smaller one (ideally in an acclimatization box or something along that line). From the reaction of the two towards each other you can get a good idea if they will get along or not.

In the past I put a pair together by finding a male for the female I already had. They can be sexed by their forehead (actually neck) profile and snout angle, but you need a really good eye and ideally hundreds to compare and select from. I picked my male out of a huge selection at DeJong Marinelife.

Thank you for the information. Definitely use the acclimation box when the new tank arrives.

I really don't want to jinx my CBB but it's two weeks in now and he's doing brilliantly. He's eating like a champ and I am seeing no aggression from any tank mates. When he's not eating, he's swimming back and forth right at the front of the DT - I'm cautiously optimistic. 😄

Hi, I have a CBB for 2 weeks now. He is eating chironomus and other frozen food, so I don't think he is hungry. The problem is that he is picking on my 2 trachyphillia and favia. I think he is thinking that their polyps are worms...The 2 trachyphillia were closed the first 2 days, now they are expanded to 1/2 or even 3/4 of their normal size, but afraid to show polyps. Do you think that behaviour could go better in the future, or I should remove the fish? It's more rare to see it picking on the corals, but it still happens...

Here is my CBB that I had for about 4 years. I think it is best to release him in a tank with thriving sand beds and a lot of feather duster that he can eat until he get use to aquarium fare. Once he get use to the tank, he is very out going and going after food with gusto. In my tank he compete with the rest of the big boys without any problem.
Also CBB does not go to sleep at night but he hunt all day and night. A little moon light at night he will get a lot of the worm that come out at night.

Hi I've had my copperband around 4 months
Unfortunately I've had an out beak of ich and lost half my fish. Nightmare

I have moved remainder of fish to a quarantine tank and started treating with copper.

Elvis the cbb has never had a problem eating live brine and frozen mysis but these past 3 days in the qt tank and he has stopped eating.

Any ideas to get him back eating he never showed any signs of ich but moved him as a precaution.

I am also new to the hobby.

Thanks

mine wont eat anything except clams. He eats those right out of my hand he loves them.

Got him eating white and red worms
I can't get black worm in my lfs.

He still will not eat anything else but the trick that worked for me was to put the worms onto some rock in the QT tank then he ate them.
He would not even take them when floating in the water.

Now he can't eat enough of them.

He will not touch clams at the min.
Or even caviar:))

Hi

Might be a stupid question but is it possible to keep a regular Copperband with a Muelleri Copperband in the same tank?

One of the ways I keep the more vigorous eaters from interfering with my CBB getting enough to eat is to hand feed him. If I put the food between my thumb and index finger with a little pressure, he is the only one that can get to it.
