Deeznutz Hd 120 Shallow rimless (Pics)

That looks awesome and unique! Beautiful home too

Thank you sir.

I am interested in learning how you are going to facilitate a clean lighting system.

Are you going to run power up to the lights though the wall? Surface mount and paint the same colour as the walls to allow easier access? Those cables at eye level are mighty unsightly and challenging to hide given the need for access.
So for the lighting I'll be using a 60" 4 bulb sun power for the time being.
I planing on suspending it from the ceiling with the stainless steel hanging cables. The one power cords shouldnt be too much of an eyesore since the tank should distract your eyes from it.
I have run a wiring within the wall before but I find that the wire tugs on the light fixture not allowing it to hang flat and square. The power cords are pretty heavy gauge. Plus you are restricted to the amount you and raise or lower the light.
Know what I mean? You have any suggestions?

White will be pretty awesome. Stainless probably less so. I think white will be better - allows you to focus on the tank.

I'm torn between the two. Heres what's going through my mind.

If I were to do a stainless steel trim(thick and chunky) around the bottom of the tank. It is because it ties everything together e.g. Kitchen has all stainless appliances with stainless cupboard handles. Light fixtures in the the homes are all stainless. Sunpower lighting is stainless.

I guess the same works for the white quartz as it pulls the counter tops and the white kitchen uppers together. I might disassemble my sun power and have it power coated white to match. Hmmmm.

Whatcha thinking I should do? Can you see why I'm torn between the two?
Also thinking about painted the Sunpower a funky colour like red.

Def do the white quarts trim

Only time will tell I guess.

this made me lol, gonna use that as mu excuse lol

white would look amazing on your set up.

for lighting, u can use something like "reef in the sky" did with his first build, I have one installed too if u wanted to check it out.

looks great and cant wait for wet pics. you know what I mean.

It's a great excuse! Feel free to use it. Everyones doing it.
Can you post a pic of your light rack? How did you power it etc? I need some dets

+1 On the white quarts trim

Very clean look.

Intrigued on the lightning options as well.

I'm still not completely convinced on my lighting. I wish I could have the lights sponsored by Ecotech Radian or ATI :( I wonder if I could swing it lol.

I think lighting is the biggest deciding factor for this tank. Its also the reason why I've gone with a 84" long tank compared to a 96". The Sunpower just gonna have to do for now.

Have u considered pendant style LEDs that match your other pendants in the room and retro fit them with some kessil LEDs

Yes I have considered it, but the daisy chaining and all the wires is pretty complicated and I wanted something thats a bit more clean looking.

Chunky brushed stainless trim, with 1/2 / 3/4 inch channel cut (on centre line) , and filled with white quartz accent :) you're welcome

Lol, great idea. Why choose between the two when you can have both
Will definitely consider the design option. No worries, you will get full credit for it :)

:wildone:Very clean I like the house..lol oh and the tank is ok too

Lol, the tanks alight I guess :lol2:

Have I expressed how much I love the Sketchup program? It really helps you realize and picture things without actually doing it. I've always found that going from the drawing board to the final product is shockingly realistic.

The best part about the program is that it free and very easy to use. So if you haven't used it, go try

For some people(and this includes myself) that have to convince their significant other into doing something as expensive as a fish tank. Wouldn't it be better if you could show them how it can look before you get the green light? It worked for me ;)

Any who, for those who are interested I've added the link below.

This is the best build I've read in a very long time. I know this because my wife saw the pictures and loved it. She isnt impressed with fishy stuff often. We both really loved seeing the renovations and how beautiful it turned out. The part that both had us scratching our head is how you have managed to do all this with 2 little kids. Our kids are just slightly older and at this point I dont think I would have it in me. Especially in the time frame you have acheived. Amazing work. I will definitely be following.

My one recommendation (because everything is so well planned) is that when its time to get fish you consider a Naso tang. I always preach to their algae eating abilities. Most of them will readily eat valonia (bubble) as well as other algaes typical tangs do not.

Thanks Darryl! I'm happy you guys are enjoying my build.

I'm not going to lie, it was a hard 4-5 weeks of solid work.

I continued my regular work hours and then worked on the house afterwards until 1-2am every day. I was a zombie for this time a lost a bit of weight as well. But it was worth the effort :)

We bridged the two homes while doing the reno, so we had a place to live during construction. It makes it a lot easier, but bridging is quite expensive as you have to carry two mortgages. It was a very stressful time trying to get things to move in ready.

At the time, I only had one 3 year old and my wife was 7 months pregnant with our second. Our second daughter ended up coming December 23rd as an early Christmas present :roll face:

As for your suggestion of a Naso, I've always loved them. I might have to consider one. All the ones Ive seen are usually large suckers. Maybe I can find a decent sized one.

Update time!

So today I had the day off of work. So I decided to work on the fish room after a months worth of procrastinating. I figured it had to get done so i can move forward with the build.

So here are the pics of the mess and what I'm dealing with it. I apologies for the sloppiness. But I've been so busy lately that the mess is absolutely necessary. lol:hmm3:

Continued

Here you can see what's been done over the last 3 hours. I got my first coat of mud on, so hopefully I can get some time tomorrow night for a light sand and a second coat. :bounce1:
Really wish I had a second set of hands for the drywall, but I managed to get onto the walls.

Also by the time I was finished drywalling the inside wall I lost all of my light.
So now I'm in a hurry to run my power feed to the fish room just to have some light again lol.

Great progress on the fish room! You've got a lot done in those 3 hours, that's for sure. The frag tank is looking great as well.

Thanks man, you have to work fast when the wife and kids step out for a bit :) Frags tanks doing alright consider the neglect it recieves. I had a mo=inor hiccup, but she's back on track.

Congrats it´s coming together fast !! Do you have a render on how the fish room will end up like ?

Thanks man, I'm not sure about coming together fast, but its getting done.
I have a rendering on page 2 or 3 I think. I can't see images at work, but feel free to check it out. Lots of pics :):bounce3::bounce3::bounce3:

Gotta love updates

JUst for you buddy ;)

Outstanding !!!

Thanks!

Found it!

The room is actually going to be a bit different. The actually size of the room has shrunk a bit. Dimensions are now 14' x 8' and is a perfect rectangle compared to the pic. The shelf area is no longer there. Ill be moving the frag tank to the opposite side of the sump so they are facing each other. That steel table will not be there and instead I'll be building a bench that wraps around the wall opposite from the sump.

I'll do a rendering of it when I get a chance.
