DIY LEDs with Radion Pro G2 pucks?

Hey guys

I'm definitely considering doing this, but would someone be willing to make a post with an inventory that would make up 1 system consisting of 2 clusters?

Also, how would one wire one of these harnesses? once I were to see a parts list, it might make more sense.

Thanks
Alex

All of that information is in this thread. Including how to make your own harness with tool recommendations. There are schematics and pinouts and everything you need to make some lights. I recommend you spend the time reading the entire thread as it will answer all of your questions.

I am looking into doing this as part of a hybrid fixture. I am hoping to get some feed back on how to go about this. I have a few questions.

1. Depending on which pucks I end up with I would have 5 channels (Gen 2) or 6 (Gen 2 pro/Gen 3/Gen 3 pro), is this correct?

2. A couple of years ago I bought 2 Meanwell CLG-150-36A PSU's intending to make some kind of LED light. I did not know much about how to proceed back then but I have a better understanding now I think. Will these be adequate for Gen 3 pucks or will Gen 3 or "pro" pucks push them too much?

3. I am planning on using one of them per puck pair and utilizing the harness being sold in this thread.

4. Aside from that I will need a ldd 5up or ldd 6up per pair as well as the ldd's themselves. I saw earlier in the thread that you can use a mix of ldd's depending on the need of the channel.

5. I was thinking of using ldd 1000's on the white and blue channels and 700 or possibly 500's on the others. I also saw where someone indicated that you could use 700's on all channels and that would work and it would probably increase the life span of the led's?

6. Is it absolutely imperative that I not go over the 4.2 amps that my power supply is rated for by adding up all of the ldd's? Or is that only if each string is being run on the max power allowed by the ldd's?

As for control I am planning on using the the storm or storm x controller.

I also need to secure a set of pucks either through the forums or by purchasing them new.

I figure while I sort that out I can buy the support components and get it all setup while I obtain the pucks and controller.

I appreciate any feed back. I have read through this and some other threads on led's and I am just trying to get a better handle on it.

Does anyone know what size screw is used to hold down the puck and lenses I wanted to drill and tap my heat sink

I have the pucks
wating on the lens and the leds should be here before week end

All you should need is some paste solder and your good to go!

Are you getting your leds from mouser and rapid?
I've been thinking of buying the cases from EcoTech as well. $20 each. I think 2 cases and shipping was $52.

I've decided to get a Bluefish. Do you think there is an advantage to the regular vs the mini?

I have the regular and they haven't come out with any accessories to go with it yet and you still need fan control so the mini would have been good for me leds from rapid and Moser I'm going to look into the cases

Terry im using the fixtures from rapid led 12 x 6 with fan
I'm not sure if adding the missing led's is worth it anyone have any opinions to share

My $.02

The gen3 pucks have only 3 Royal blue leds per puck.
I added a Royal Blue to the red channel on one of the 2 pucks and also added the missing Royal Blue. I like the blue color. The corals need the blue and that is one gripe I have with the Radions anyway, not enough pop on the corals.
The UV and Indigo add a lot. I have talked to the folks at Steves leds and I believe it was Jeff over there that said the Indigo leds slow coral growth. I have the email and can post that part.

Just a fiy,...I sent my gen2's to steve's. Jeff was my go to guy I had them fill in the missing leds with their HyperViolet 3.0 and Royal Blue that comes on with the violet channel. Great service and fast turn around.
