DIY LEDs with Radion Pro G2 pucks?

Hey guys,...has anyone been able to hook up your diy build to Apex using the WXM module?

I searched Apex on the thread but all posts were at the beginning with no one posting that they have been successful. I'm using O2 6211 boards as drivers and will get a Bluefish if a Apex won't work. Thanks,---Rick

Hi Everyone.....just spent the last few days going through this thread.....and some great info!!! very much appreciated. So I finally got my hands on a couple G2 pucks off ebay today, and im thinking I would like to upgrade these to quasi G3PRO. I say quasi becuase I know at least the royal blues are actually different chips between the G2 and G3Pro, but no big deal.....

1. So, to do this, I need to add the 4 violets (semiled 405nm and 415nm) and 1 yellow (Osram oslon ssl (590nm yellow). I found the violets, but I am having trouble sourcing the Osram Yellows. I found some on mouser, but the viewing angle is 80deg. they did not have the 150deg versions in stock, but I would prefer to use the versions with 150deg viewing angle. Any ideas where to get these?

2. Any wiring harnesses still floating around?

I should have a set of gen 2 pucks for sale shortly. Tempted to attempt building another unit, but don't have the time. Let me know if anyone wants to purchase.

Sharkboy - where did you source your Osram Yellow?

I upgraded my gen2 to gen3 pro.
low temp solder and a $6 hot plate from Goodwill.
Watched a vid from sparkfun I think about how to do it.
You just put a small line of solder to the traces on the pcb, set the leds on them. Don't push them down. Put them on the hot plate and watch until the solder paste turns silver, give it another 5 seconds and pull it and put it on a heatsink or something to cool it down and that's all there was to it. About $25 bucks per puck.
It was really that easy. Oh yeah, you have to remove the 0 ohm resister in the middle to get the center led to light up.

Thanks Sharkboy!!

I saw those at mouser....I was looking for the wider 150deg viewing angle.....

Does anyone know which ones are used on the radion G3PRO? The 80deg or 150deg viewing angles???

Seems like all the research I did said these were the ones. I've no complaints with these.
The Radions take a little getting used to anyway. I went from home made to Chinese to Gen3 pro upgrades. The Radions don't put out the blue like my home made or the Chinese lights but they do seem to grow coral. I'm putting some royal blue supplemental lighting in right now. I guess I just like the colors to pop, and you don't get as much of that without more blues.

Thanks sharkboy.

Thats interesting what you say about the blues.......

Just out of curiosity, what power (amps) LDD are you using for the deep blue (or Royal Blues)?

I think eco tech is driving them at 1.5amps max.......If you are using only 1 amp driver, maybe this could be reason for low blue output.....just thinking out loud...

Mouser has those as well mouser part # 720-LACPDPKQKSW3
They are .1 mm larger square.

You may be part right. I am driving them at 1 amp. The 1500ma drivers were making my power supply buzz. I did not notice that big of a difference in light when I changed drivers. However I have my Royal Blues at a higher level to compensate for this.

Those are not actually the ones I was looking for. I want the Oslon SSL 150 in 590nm (yellow) wavelength.

These: http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail...U/H/DxGLzjJmI1dHNlmL7bt9Sp21lKac692hxW5XsTT7t

They are Mouser p/n - 720-LYCPDPJRJT1.

But they are special order only...so im sure there is a very large min order....I found them overseas...but shipping is crazy......

Honestly though, I have not been able to clearly identify if Ecotech is using the 150 viewing angle or the 80 viewing angle. I would think they are using the 150 because the lenses would further focus the light to even a smaller viewing angle.....and there are only two lights, so they would end up looking like spot lights.

Sharkboy....
Can you tell me what color the pad is on the osram yellows you purchased? Is it a white-ish color?

I ask because the osram website shows the leds with the 80 degree viewing angle having a white-ish pad while the o es with the 150deg viewing angle as a black-ish color.......i wasnt sure if this was just coincidence or actual identification marking......

When looking at the g3pro pucks....it looks like the yellow leds have a plack pad.........
