It really is nice work Alan but I'm sad you didn't take any tips from my famous "Great Stands from Particle Board and Formica" DIY thread. ;)

Great build Alan. And that piece of furniture that you're using :D to hold up your tank is gorgeous. :eek1: I showed my wife and she really loves it too.

Thank you Paul. If you need the information on how to build the panels let me know.

I thought of that but my wife didn't like the wood grain options for the Formica. :p :p

WOOHOO my tank arrived today. :bounce3:  :celeb2: :celeb3:

Here's the FedEx Freight truck backing down the driveway.

I finally unwrapped it to reveal it in all it's MONSTROUS GLORY
This thing is a BEAST.
Here's a shot from the end (sorry I couldn't get a FTS as I can't get it in my shop any farther without moving out my tools).

END.jpg

Here's the overflow on the back.

OVERFLOW-2.jpg

The front and rear glass is 5/8" thick and the ends are 1/2" (Starphire front and end panels)

These are the 3/4" thick corner gussets. :eek1:

Did I mention that this thing is a BEAST. :eek2: :eek2:

Did it come with one of those reef backdrops so you can watch something while you wait for the real thing? ;)

Looks great Alan.

Congratulations!

Nice lookin' tank you've got there, Alan. Makes for an exciting day, doesn't it? :D :p You went a little deeper than I did with the overflow box - that's good! I wish I had another two inches. How is the eggcrate attached?

Congrats Alan, the tank looks very well built. I like how it doesn't have cross bracing (wish my tank didnt)... that euro bracing and the extra corner braces look pretty darn tough to me.

Also looks like they used eggcrate instead of overflow teeth (the stronger black kind), that's a good call should allow for some great surface skimming.

Now that is a beast of a tank! And what a big overflow. Smart decision to chage from the typical weir to the eggcrate. Well-thought out. Hope you have a more than just a few friends to lift that monster from the shop to its final spot!!

Great designed tank Alan!
Jeff and Frank mentioned tht Aquamains is going to set the tank on the stand. Great idea, wish I had a store near me that would do that.
Can you post some detailed photos of the "fit and finish" work from this tank builder?
Thanks,
T

Thanks I think I'll get some of those plastic mermaids, treasure chests, and sunken ships to put in there. It'll keep me amused while I do the plumbing.

Thanks. Yes I waited with baited breath (I had a night crawler on my tongue :D ) 'til he arrived. They said between 11 and 2 but I was the last of the day. The overflow box is 6" wide (outside) and 12" deep. The egg crate is attached with silicone. A friend who is getting his from Miracles said that they do it a little differently. The use a black acrylic box (with no bottom) of which the egg crate is part, and it just slides into the overflow. Neat idea.

I'm so excited to finally get it after 3 month wait. I like the egg crate instead of the teeth. I wanted to avoid the center brace as it allows much more access to the tank. Yes the Euro bracing is great and I didn't expect the corner gussets. AO build a good tank. Every piece of glass is beveled and polished.

Seth/Tom
I will not lift a finger (even though I'm MarbleMan :p ) -- but I'm a good supervisor. :) I have a local aquarium maintenance company coming on the 15th to install it. The egg crate is standard fare for AO.

The previous owner of Aquamains kept the maintenance side of the business and they will be installing it led by Drew (Plyr58). I'll get some better photos and post them.

Tom, congrats! You'll love the full euro bracing! Also aids in keeping critters in the water ;) And as Ryan stated...lighting schema is not limited.

I saw the tank and it looks great, Alan made sure it was over engineered ( that is meant as a compliment ) !! :)
