Alan,

You have a burrowing fish. You can't issue an Amber alert everytime it goes missing. :D

:p :p :p

Jawfish are so cool.

Steve
They are the most entertaining fish in my tank right now (and I can't see them being beat in that respect).

Well it's been a while since I posted some photos of my tank so for everyones edification here you go:

I need smaller pics Alan. That stuff you sent me is overwhelming my machine.

Thanks guy, the few that have seen it like it.

You need more anthias =)...

I did have four females and one male but the runt female succumbed to chasing by the male. The other females seem to put up with it though (they are a bit smaller than the one that died).

I did order five Blue Reef Chromis but only one survived which I understand is the case for ones ordered on line. I will have to find some locally (although the LFS gets theirs by FedEx so I'm not sure what the difference is).
When I set up my tank I deliberately left lots of swimming room as I want a lot of fish.

Sorry Tom.
Link sent to my iDisk with size reduced photos.

Great pics, Alan. The tank is looking real good. How do you manage to get all your fish to pair up?
Tom
I guess I'm lucky. All the stuff I read on Firefish said that they would be aggressive to their own kind unless they were a mated pair. I purchased the two Helfrickis from an online store (I actually got three as one of my buddies took one but it got trapped in his overflow teeth and perished. :( ). They hit it off from day one and are always swimming together. I got the large Purple Firefish a while back and then added the second smaller one a few weeks ago and they buddied up. The two red Firefish I also got online and they are happy with each others company.
The Bluespot Jawfish takes up position every morning in the front right of the tank under a rock where he proceeds to chase his reflection in the glass for about the time it takes me to do the crossword and drink a cup of tea. His mouth opens and closes so I don't know if he is being aggressive or not. A LFS has one about the same size that I'm thinking of getting but my two Pearlies (The Odd Couple) don't seem to want to tolerate each others company for long so I'm not sure about that. Don't you have two?
The only other antagonists are the Blue and Pink Spotted Prawn Goby and the Orange Striped Prawn Goby. The Blue and Pink seems more aggressive and is always chasing off the Orange Stripe. I did read that they were agressive toward their own but tolerant of other Prawn Goby species. Go figure.

Man, I would hate to see the big ones without a 50" monitor. ;)

And I'm using my MacBook Air :eek2: Did you get the smaller ones okay?

Skipper, our rk editor has it and is working on it now. He knows far more than I do on decktop publishing and said he'll make it fine.

No wonder you have pH problems while running a Mac. :D

I may have PH problems but at least I don't have viruses (unless cyanobacteria is a virus). :p :p

I posted over in the Clownfish and Anemone forum because my Long Tentacle Anemone ... well .... does not have long tentacles. They are about and inch to an inch and a half and the overall size is about 5" across. I posted this picture and was told that it was "bleached out" and should have green or blue tentacles (they are sort of bluish-white). I was told that the whiteness was because of lack of zooanthalea (sp?). Any thoughts??

It may be what I wanted to see, sorry, with that LED system. If you remember I said I was using you as a test case. ;)

You might try placing it higher in the tank, if it will stay there, or maybe under the MH lights. How is the clam looking? It too will show a loss of mantle color if the lighting is not sufficient. It too is a high light demand critter.

They range in color from green to blue to shades of pink, depending on the species. When they change to pure white it usually mean the symbiotic bacteria are no longer fueling the coral's color pigmentation mechanism . Symbiotic alga are brown but the sugars they produce allow the coral to produce colored pigments

Actually the anemone is more blue than white (my camera is not set up correctly). The anemone and the clam are under the MH (actually the clam is sort of on the border between the MH and LEDs and is doing very well. It's mantle is a deep blue and opens up really well. I will try and take some shots of it.
The anemone is a sand dwelling species so moving it higher is not an option. I could increase my MH period from 6 hours to 8 hours.

It is worth a try Alan. Anemones are notoriously finicky about lighting and can be a challenge in any tank. I'd hate to even mention how many I have lost over the years but most were back in the days where normal output fluorescent lighting was pretty much standard for a tank.

Update
Well my cyanobacteria has gone. I pulled out some clumps and the rest has disappeared. The green hair algae is also on the wain as the the Trochus and Turbo snails are slowly getting it under control. Probably just New Tank Syndrome. :)
