Well all the new fish are in - 4 Blue Reef Chromis (one was DOA), 2 Firefish, 1 Purple Firefish (as a buddy to my existing one), 2 Emerald Crabs (I hardly ever see the one that's in there now), and 2 Lettuce Nudibranch. The male Lyretail Anthia has decided that he's the big boy on the block and is bullying the new comers to let them know that  (wait till a Tang goes in -- he won't be the big boy anymore). :D Even the clown is having a charge at the Firefish occasionally (but there again he was in their "corner of the tank"). Hopefully they will all settle down. I am worried about my Blue Spot Jawfish. He did come out to grab a mysis the other day but he doesn't seem to want to come fully out like the Pearly Jawfish do. Maybe he'll need time to adjust.

Looking forward to those bluespot pictures!

Andy
If he ever comes out I'll try to get a shot. Here's something to be going on with in the meanwhile. Beautiful fish.

I hope I don't get into trouble with the mods for posting this photo (they are an RC sponsor though)

Alan,

Are you adding all those fish at once without using a QT?

Err, Um, Err.... well sort of. :( :o I know - I know, I should take my own advice. I figure that the ich magnet that will go in last will go in QT (Tang). The problem is that all I've read says to only QT one fish at a time because they can pass infections back and forth. Well if you're adding pairs or shoals (in the case of the Anthias and Chromis) what's a girl to do?

I heard that fish can raise the PH of a tank. Is that true?

:D :D

Are you trying to change the subject, Alan? ;)

Alan: If you aren't going to QT at least have Prazipro on hand and after you acclimate add some prazipro to the the acclimate container and do a fast 30-60 minute bath. You'll knock off a ton of parasites (Flukes, ect) that you can't see for very little effort. It wont kill Ich, but it will kill a whole host of nasties with little effort on your part and no stress to the fish.

Runt eh Prazipro at 1.5x the recommended strength for the bath. The recommended strength is for long term use in an infected tank.

I have to admit that I let that one fall through the cracks. I have prazipro in my cupboard but failed to use it. Dumbo

if I start of with a container say with a gallon of water that came with the fish and I drip acclimate it by adding tank water and removing water as the container fills up, what strength do I start with??

The good part is that, since it is a new tank, it is somewhat of a giant QT. Once you get it populated it would be most wise to QT further introductions. It is always sad when someone has a year or two old tank, adds a new fish, then ends up tearing it apart to catch fish to place in a hospital tank. You have placed a lot of time, effort and money into building a great tank. It would be unwise to not have a QT protocol to act as insurance.

End of rant. ;)

I agree with Tom. (Partially because I am afraid of him - look at that face on his avatar Alan).... The more fish you add, the greater the "induced social stress"....
Kind of like why your blood pressure may rise if you lived in a condominium, and the new neighbors were really noisy, and obnoxious. It may even make you ill due to the added stress -diminishing your immune system's ability to fight off disease.
Same with fish.......

+1 to the above..! LOL

And I have never heard of fish raising Ph...I would think that fish could have an impact on lowering Ph due to increased Bio-load ( more waste ) and more feeding.....My 2 cents - I would concentrate on adding more coral instread of fish from here on out...but you know me , Im just a Coral kind of guy..:mixed:

Yeah Tim, Ill bet you are right about that..just dont "jerk" around with me when Im 275 feet AGL !

Well, that's one gorgeous blue-spot Alan! ;)

Thanks Andy. I hope he gets over his shyness. The Pearly Jawfish are always out swimming around (not too far from their homes though).

Sort of like going on a road trip

Tom
You're right of course. I want to add a Tang down the road and it will definitely go in QT. Two of my Blue Chromis didn't make it so I'm down to two. :(
I think my only addition in the near future will be a Mandarin. I need to get a handle on my GHA and red cyano (and PH of course) first. What's your take on using Maracyn Two to treat red cyano? I've know someone who used it twenty years ago. It says on the box that it will not kill the beneficial bacteria like Nitrobacter and Nitrosomonas.

Nah - Alan road trips with me are great, and relaxing....So long as I am driving - I have a great time:D
But you had better ask JRF how he feels about that:eek2: :mixed:
