Full Tank Progression Shots

Your tank is incredible ReefBum, great job and thanks for sharing!

Can you tell me what is the maintenance and the regulary with which you do, to keep your tank background clean of coralline algae? Do you have any space behind the aquarium to help with this?

Many thanks. Yes...I designed the tank so I would have a 4-5 inch channel between the back panel and live rock. This helps with flow and really allows corals to pop against the black background. I scrape the back every other day with a plastic scrapper and give it a major cleaning every 3 months with a metal scrapper. Of course it has become a bit harder to reach all spots with the growth :)

Your aquarium is fantastic ReefBum :inlove:

Tell me theres a 500g tank on the cards :D

Have you thought about introducing vodka, starting with really small additions (something silly like 1ml per day)? It might just marginally reduce the zooxanthellae in your SPS, making them pop even more than they already are.

And thank you. No thought at this point to dosing vodka. I don't want to mess with a good thing!

Beautiful tank you have. What lighting are you using at the moment? Please tell me what the Reefbum method is of increased nutrients and large water changes?

ReefBum: spectacular tank ... I couldn't find it anywhere in your thread where you talk about what, if any, protocols you use for quarantine? Can yiou talk about what procedures you use or point me to a link where you discuss this? thanks

Amazing tank, a couple questions, whats the green coral on the right hand side of the orange monti? And what kind of light setup are you running?

looking at the later shots you would have no idea that the rockwork is actually only just 2 islands

Thanks! The only thing I do along those lines is dip all acros in Interceptor and Tropic Marin Pro Cure.

And thank you! That green coral is an ORA Electric Green Birdsnest. I got it as a small frag and it took me a while to get that one to color up since I had it placed too high in the tank. It started to flourish once I put it on the bottom. Here is my lighting set up:

6' Sfiligoi light fixture with 3 SE 400W bulbs and 8 39W T5s.
Halides (driven by Sunlight Supply Blue Wave 7 HQI ballasts) are 20K Radiums while T5s are Giesemann POWERCHROME Actinic Plus

ok from month one of setup to current , which month or spot on the time line was your worst , dealing with algae blooms or red slime . Or has it always been smooth sailing?

Ha! The first 6 months to a year were not great since I was having issues with my light fixture. I was actually melting bulbs and the manufacturer wasn't making good on the warranty. My corals looked a bit bleached out because it seemed like they were getting too much light. Things changed when I replaced the manufacturer's ballasts with Sunlight Supply HQI ballasts. That is when I started using Radiums and noticing major improvements in colors and growth. It was also at that time that I started feeding my fish more and began to use Roti Feast and Oyster Feast on a daily basis.

It has been a few months so I thought I would update the progression. I removed the big orange cap in the front center (it was up against the glass) and I moved my ORA Borealis away from the ORA Red Planet and Purple Monster to the left of the big Red Table in the center. I also chopped the big ORA Green Birdsnest in the lower right in half and moved the pieces to the bottom middle....I couldn't split it cleanly so I took about 20 frags and made a colony! Its getting really crowded in there :lol2:
