What are the features of this light ? is it dimmable?

here:
high efficiency/low consumption
extended light duration / longer lamp service
uses both metal halide and T5 fluorescent lamps
injection moulded, multi-powder-coated enclosure
SCO high-performance mirror-coated reflectors
flicker-free Electronic, High Frequency, Low-Loss ballast
symmetrical light distribution
splash guard, UV glass filter
multilayer, class A powder coating
steel-wire fixture suspension system
low weight, high strenght, high resistance material,
low energy consuming production process.
high gloss finish

PLus it looks cool ! lol:D

I noticed:
1. The bulbs are far to either end. Is this OK for full coverage of tank, ie getting enough light to center?

2. What are the differences (advantages/cons) between these duel socket bulbs vs mogul type bulbs?

There's been lots of discussion about wich does what over the years.

Some studies have indicated that double-ended (HQI) bulbs do yield higher par values than some comparable mogul bulbs. They are 4 sure more efficient from a power/performance aspect.

BAllasts determine ouput!

As far as higher par values I dunno prolly the same.

IMHO there's no difference between lets say HQI vs Mogul 250's besides efficiency.

The coverage is not a concern since the reflectors are well made and the t5's provide the rest.

I will be missing the corners of my tank but no light loving critters wil live there anyways.
HTH

I reallly like your stand. Who did your stand fabrication. I am thinking of redoing my wood stand and would like to do it with steel or aluminum and then wrap it with cabinet fronts.

Thanks,

Steve

Steve the stand was made by one of my poker buddies- he does comercial stuff but was kind enuff to make it for me( he had no choice after a bad night at cards LOL)

BTW i just dropped it today to be powdercoated.:D

Drip tray

Drip tray

Yesterday I picked up my drip tray .

Thx to "marine design systems"
Planning to fit it under the bare portion of the stand on top of some foam.

What do you mean "i will miss the corners". You just mentioned the reflectors extend towards the center, why not out?

Sorry for so many questions but im concidering similar lighting set up for my upcoming upgrade (just not as fancy). :p

Enlighten me please. What is the purpose of a drip tray. Never seen this before.

even with wood flooring, how much volume could it hold? and what happens to spills anyways?

I have wood floors. A towel at hand goes a long way.

I would assume it would have a drain built into it to drain outside or have a sump pump sitting in the tray to pump out the water.

Josh its made so the sump reactor and other equipment do not sit directly on top of my wood floors/just in case - u know drip here drip there.

Its not meant to hold large amounts of water-just to collect drippings and so forth.

The tank is 60 long - the fixture is 48".

I think it will be ok but perhaps a couple of inches on each side would not be completely covered/ will wait and see.

A towel goes a long ways but it does not send u a text message and or alarm;) or for that matter turn off pumps until the problem is solved.

Wouldnt' have to worry about spills and you'd have some leakage control just another safety feature.

Water Leakage Interface (ACQ210N-WL) - aquatronica-
Aquatronica Water Leakage Sensor

Well, You'll still have to worry about leaks except that now you will find out the minute they start and not when you have 3" of water on your wood floors, or when you walk in your house and wonder, what is that ocean smell?
