gasman's059 new build!

Very nice, any updates
Life is good and the tank is doing great-- just ha a little mishap with a leakt bulkhead that required some patience and a couple of beers, but the new bulhead and plumming are working just fine.

Had to take my frag tan down due to the above problem but sometime next week Ill get it back up/
I have no recent pics as of now Ill update this thread time permiting.

The corals and tank are excellent under the new lighting spectrum that also includes 3x24 t5's.

I've had a couple of typical mini-crashes but all in all the tank is thriving under the new lighting spectrum, and the possibilities are endless when you couple this system with a profilux controller.

I will take the time to transfer a regular video camera 5 minute vid of the actual storms and lighting changes that this LED units can do.

In the meantime-- a couple of new fish addditions.

That's all for now-- i will get back at this thread as soon as I can covert my camcorder video to be posted here.

ITS COMING HAHAHAHAH:frog:

I have friends in low places LOL.
I'm slowly bringing back my personal favorite fish into my tank.
So far the goldflake/A small pair of regals( one RIP)/waiting for the perfect venustus /Small flame.
they are all the size of a quarter currently.

HERE it is.

HERE it is.

As promised a little better version of a thunderstorm. Excuse the color and somewhat blurry video, is the best I can do with a regular camcorder.

The tank is certainly not in its optimal condition due to recent crash but all in all the tunderstorms and light show make me quickly forget some of my browned out corals LOL.

I wish I could capture the color exactly like in real time.

Sounds and looks way better in person

Gasman, I also been looking in to getting the Venustus Pygmy Angel some websites say they are hard to keep cus they tend to not eat or what not and some other cite which "sell" the fish say it's moderate. I was wondering if you can give me your opinion on them. Thank you

Sounds? where those storm sounds edited or actually being heard from the camera lol?

Also how is the spread of light from those fixures? Do you think i could get by with 2 on a 36x36? I see you have 2 for every 30x30 maybe i could make up those 6 inches with some sort of t5 supplement or do you think it would be fine?

Thanks

Here's my opinion on venustus- there's plenty out there-- locally them boys at coral reef farm get them consistently. Off course some of us get to cherry pcik them.
I was lucky enuff several years back to get this one in the pic.
Venustus are shy and need to be properly aclimated to their environment.

This litle guy was perfect the moment I got him -- he even made the cover of reefkeeping magazine august 2008
My success was in great part by roggersreeffood-- I've had this fish in the past that simply looses appetite and dies.

By getting him used to the food and mesh is IMO great recipe for succes.

I was just playin aroud and added some storms and music to the clip.
Elan the lights cover lots more than I anticipated. They are a good 10-12 inches over my tank. Front to back I would not push more than 25-26.

My t5's supps only run 2-3 hrs a day when I'm not home - my take is that they provide some extra spectrum that in my opinion corals need and the LED's at leas this version does not.

Perhaps the upgrade to sol blue will provide a better spectrum lets say 14k-vs 20k when you run both blue and white at 100%

My tank at most runs at 85% white for only 2-3 hrs.

Much to be learned and experimented with this technology.

Actually I think that you did a good job at capturing the storm, the only reason why you would think that it "sounds and looks way better in person" is because you are looking at it with a monster glass of coconut rum and pineapple juice in your hands and you actually like that old reggae music!
Good Job! My tank is next.
