Green Clown Goby amd Sps frags

So ive heard that the greens dont nip at polyps but just a few seconds ago i saw him up on my frag rack and for the first time my red planet and teal acro didnt have polyp extension. Maybe not so reef safe eh?

Might could be just because they were irritated by him sitting on them. I've had a green clown goby for a few months and have never seen him nipping at any of my SPS. He likes to hang out in my digitata, which at first retracted its polyps in response. But now the coral seems to have "gotten used to" the goby and stays polyped-out, even when he's lounging among the branches.

They're neat little fish, but very susceptible to ich. Mine was originally one-half of a pair, but his mate never fed well and died not long after being introduced to my tank (the current one recovered and is doing fine). Make sure the goby is eating well, monitor him around your corals (at least initially), and watch him carefully for signs of ich. Good luck.

hes been in there for a couple months ive never seen him eat but i got pods that are a good quarter inch i think he eats. As for the frags. He wasn't on them per se but near them. I always check for RTN when I walk by my tank (people tell me how hard SPS keeping is and im a hands off kind of reefer though i havent lost a coral yet *knock knock*) and saw the bare skelly on the two acros with him kinda holding onto the rack and a base against the curret, but all the polyps were in which litereally, five minutes out of the box were extranded and have been for the last couple weeks. I dunno, my yellowtail needs to be keeping him in the rock more i guess like the decidetes little fish policeman he is.

Saw him back over on the frag rack today. I noticed the digitata acting funky sure enough hes irritating all the branching sps escpet the green slimer which has weird growth almost like a table.... anyways, what a jerk

Not a jerk...just behaving the way he would in nature. They live in branching coral colonies in the wild, which is a good defense if you're bite-sized and surrounded by predators. You might want to either put him in a different tank or trade him in if he's causing problems.

I did recently see an article that confirmed that coral gobies may eat coral polyps. Like I said, I haven't had any problem with mine, but he might be the exception. I would get him out of there--it would be a shame to lose any frags. Good luck catching the little beast!

I have 4 green clown gobies and never saw nip...
I saw something about yellow clown gobies nipping on SPS...

Green Clown Gobies definitely will nip SPS! There's been more than one thread started about it and in my experience I have seen first hand. I'd get him out.

yeah problem is ill never catch the bugger. No wonder my blue voodoo colony hasnt extended in a good while. On the flip side the goby is the most colorful green clown ive ever seen :-P

Clown gobies in general do not eat corals but will strip an sps of its flesh in spots as this is a breeding response and its here they will breed and place the eggs... with or without a mate.. They will nip at a coral to retract the polyps on a spot they sit in..
